🗣️ Chairman Carlton Reeves of the United States Sentencing Commission has spoken truth to the inequities within our justice system: 'Consider the rioter prosecutors said, engaged in some of the most barbaric violence on January the Sixth. Sentenced to 90 months for dragging a police officer into a violent mob—two years below the mandatory minimum for a kid paid a few dollars to run a half a pound of crack across town. Some might say that's outrageous. Consider the Rioter who recruited, directed, and encouraged the assault, given 18 years—many years less than federal sentences for black and brown men caught up in a stash house scheme concocted by law enforcement officers. That too, some may say is outrageous. And consider the ink spilled over lives destroyed by the prison system. Every day, young people lose years not for treasonous attacks on democracy, but for selling insignificant amounts of drugs or possessing a firearm.’ The Department of Justice must heed these words, reflecting on the inconsistencies in our justice system. The growing criticism of stash house sting operations demands change. Let's urge the DOJ to disavow this tactic and reconsider its impact on lives. #JusticeReform #CriminalJustice #StashHouseStings #DepartmentofJustice
