BEFORE YOU ATTEND THAT INTERVIEW... At a recent semi-formal recruiting session for a major hospitality business with 2 of its top management staff, I was yet again reminded of the importance of knowing how to talk about yourself. We saw folks with good CVs but lacked the necessary ingredients to communicate their values I remember how we unanimously picked someone with low experience simply because she said " I have not done that before, but I'm a fast learner and will do well once I'm taught". The smile on our faces was instant and looked planned. I'll tell you for free, the business space does not favour people who are silent about how good they are! . . . The story of interviews teaches you that you have very limited time to impress those recruiting especially when it is for entry-level positions. Sometimes recruiters have as many as 50-100 people to decide from and your job is to ensure that those first minutes count for everything. It's interesting to see people stutter and have very few inspiring statements about themselves when they're asked the famous question "Tell me about yourself?" The truth is... I did too. I wondered what exactly was I to say that was good enough for the ears of those interviewing me. Was it my family life, academic inclination, things I've achieved or just a general talk on the kind of person Jesse is? It took me a while to learn and master how to talk about myself and I'm glad I did. . . . As you apply for jobs this year, talk smart, look smart, think smart! Be intelligent in your response. Reposting a job without sharing interview feedback with applicants doesn't make any sense. Recently, my hiring leader asked me to repost a job to see new applications for an open position. I said- Certainly, we can do that but could you please share the feedback of those who completed their interviews? They replied- We would like to see more candidates to compare and then will share the consolidated feedback. I said- Unfortunately, we cannot keep 20 candidates waiting just for comparison. If you don't like them, please let them go. “I don’t want them to see this job posting again and wonder what they did wrong, especially when they invested their time and are hoping for a positive response”. The hiring leader understood my point and said- It's okay, let me share their feedback first and then you can repost the job. I replied- Certainly, thank you for considering !! We often talk about candidate experience but we forget that sharing #interview feedback is one of its most important aspects. #Moral: All candidates deserve to know their interview feedback and areas for improvement. Key Questions I focus on to ask during an interview while hiring for companies. While hiring, asking the right questions is crucial to understanding the candidate's fit. Here are some essential questions to consider: ❓Can you walk me through your resume? This helps gauge their communication skills and confidence in discussing their experience. ❓What motivated you to apply for this role?  Understanding their motivation can reveal their passion and long-term interest. ❓Can you describe a challenging project you’ve worked on? This shows their problem-solving abilities and how they handle stress. ❓Why did you leave your previous job(s)? This is crucial to understand their career trajectory and any potential red flags. we really need to discuss this, hiring managers or HRs provide extensive teststs and ghost you instead of sharing their feedback and highlighting areas of improvement for an applicant. They need to acknowledge the time and efforts we put in a process.

Agree! 👍 The candidates spend times, money, and even their annual leaves to attend the interview session. HR supposingly let the candidates know the results of interview session although he/she is not shortlisted. It is also an opportunity to let the candidates know the reason of not shortlisted and he/she can improve themselves for next interviews. I attended a HR training recently and learned that 'Ghosting candidates if they didn't get the job is one of the unprofessional behavior'. And now, I have a more understanding for this sentence through this post. 😁 #justsharemythoughts
