When you find that role you've been searching for, you know there is going to be a lot of competition. What do you do? Give up because the climb is too daunting? Or push... and push harder? Never wavering, and never, ever quitting! For me... it starts with these lines from the US Army's #SoldiersCreed... I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. One place that has been at the top of my list for quite some time is USAA. As an #ArmyVeteran (82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army) with over 20 years of experience in marketing, communications, creative strategy and execution, project management, brand leadership, consulting, team leadership, operations and strategic planning, multimedia & omnichannel strategy, developing strategic content for local, regional, and global brands, and so much more... I've spent years preparing! Now.... it's time to make that climb. The role that I have been searching for is out there right now and it's going to be in high demand. There will be a lot of competition. But I am prepared and I am ready. My point to all of this? Don't stop chasing what you want. Celebrating my two-year milestone with Mission Essential! As I reflect on this journey, I wanted to reintroduce myself to the amazing new connections I've had the pleasure of making over the past couple of years, as well as those potential connections who may come across this post through mutual acquaintances. After retiring from the Navy as a Senior Chief with 24 years of service in December 2021, I embarked on a new chapter in my life. Married to the love of my life, and blessed with four children, life has been a whirlwind of transitions. My eldest daughter recently made me a proud grandfather by marrying a fellow sailor, while my oldest son just completed his freshman year at Ohio University. Another son is gearing up for Navy Boot Camp in July, and my youngest is preparing for high school next year. The prospect of becoming an empty nester loom on the horizon, bringing a mix of emotions. Transitioning into civilian life, I found myself drawn to Mission Essential, a military-owned and operated global contracting company. Joining them has been an absolute joy. In this role, I've had the privilege of assisting over 200 candidates, both transitioning from the military and those already established in the corporate sector, in finding meaningful employment opportunities. The ability to help individuals and their families find better opportunities, whether domestically or internationally, fuels my passion and drives me to wake up excited for work each day. Along the way, I've forged numerous new connections that have enriched my perspective and furthered my professional growth in the corporate realm. In sharing this message, my intention is twofold. Firstly, I want to underscore the importance of networking and seeking assistance when pursuing new opportunities. Just as I needed support in securing this position, I'm here to extend a helping hand to others navigating their career paths. Secondly, I hope that my network of industry professionals will graciously repost this message, allowing me to expand my connections further and continue growing both personally and professionally, while remaining committed to assisting those in search of career opportunities. Do you know your mission? One thing I learned while my wife served in the #USAirForce was how important knowing what “the mission” is. All of us, active duty or not, played a role in helping to accomplish that mission. It created an incredibly supportive environment, a family if you will. That culture can be recreated for any business, sports or other team. Define the mission for your group. Make it short and easy to remember. Then take the steps to make sure that there is buy in. A good question for any organization, company, or team. What is your mission? Creating shared goals is a great resolution for any group of individuals looking to take their performance to the next level.

Often, we spend so much time living in Fear of what might happen that we lose our power to make anything happen. We allow Fear-induced paralysis of what might be to rob us of our destiny of what we can be. Serving with my fellow paratroopers in the 82nd Airborne Division was one of the greatest honors in my life. In choosing the 82nd as my first duty station, I had to face the fact I was choosing a job that required me to jump out of a perfect airplane, which was in direct conflict with my morbid fear of heights. I shudder to think about what I would have missed if I had allowed my fear to rob me of that honor to serve in the 82nd. Every time I have made a transformative breakthrough in my life, it has been because I dared to face a fear. Don’t allow fear to rob you of your future or your destiny. It has been my experience that some of the most treasured experiences, accomplishments and relationships have been just on the other side of getting past a Fear. Let’s make a commitment together - pick two fears that we will challenge in 2024. Tell everyone you can about your mission to face these two fears, and then put together a 2024 plan to face these fears. Believe in yourself! Trust in your personal power and resilience. I love all things aviation and have already showcased numerous pilots and astronauts, but Charles Lindbergh has such an amazing story, and he has a great quote, "Life is like a landscape. You live in the midst of it, but can describe it only from the vantage point of distance." As a pilot, it's always easy to look down and get the big picture, but it's not always easy to do, when you're always in the business mix. So often we are always in the minutiae, that we might be missing opportunities on a larger scale. Every once in a while you should step back, take that 40,000 foot look down and examine your business / job / sales, and see if you can gain a new insight from that different perspective! You never know what kind of opportunities that will present themselves or have always been there, just not visible, that close. Charles Augustus Lindbergh (February 4, 1902 – August 26, 1974) was an American aviator and military officer. On May 20–21, 1927, he made the first nonstop flight from New York City to Paris, a distance of 3,600 miles, flying alone for 33.5 hours. His aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis, was designed and built to compete for the $25,000 Orteig Prize for the first flight between the two cities. Although not the first transatlantic flight, it was the longest at the time by nearly 2,000 miles and the first solo transatlantic flight. It became known as one of the most consequential flights in history and ushered in a new era of air transportation between parts of the globe.
