💡 Did you know? A recent scientific statement from the American Heart Association highlights that CYP2C19 genotyping for guiding antiplatelet therapy not only reduces the risk of recurrent ischemic events but is also highly cost-effective. (1) Studies evaluating clinical event rates and medical costs have shown that CYP2C19 genotyping for ACS patients undergoing PCI is notably cost-effective, both in the United States and internationally, especially compared to the universal use of ticagrelor or prasugrel. (1) Additionally, authors noted this approach is also cost-effective for treating acute strokes and high-risk transient ischemic attacks. 👁Rare disease Spotlight : Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA)👁 LCA is a rare, inherited retinal disorder that affects the vision from birth. It is caused by mutations in various genes critical for normal vision development. Exploring the genetic landscape of LCA is key to unlocking potential therapeutic interventions. Individuals with LCA often face severe vision impairment or blindness. The condition can affect not only visual acuity but also the ability to perceive colors and navigate the surrounding environment. 🔬 Researchers are exploring ways to replace or repair the faulty genes responsible for the condition, potentially restoring vision or slowing its progression. 💡 Have you encountered cases of LCA or been involved in discussions related to rare genetic eye conditions? Share your experiences, insights, or thoughts on the evolving landscape of ophthalmology and genetic therapies. #RareDiseases #LCA #Ophthalmology #GeneTherapy #Athenaeumpub

Understanding the Impact of Recurrent Strokes and the Power of Personalized Medicine A staggering 40% of recurrent strokes lead to serious disability or can be fatal. This statistic underscores the urgency for effective preventive treatments. Innovations in pharmacogenomics, such as the Genomadix CYP2C19 test, are paving the way for more tailored therapies that can significantly reduce these risks. The test's ability to optimize Dual Antiplatelet Therapy (DAPT) based on individual genetic profiles could be a key factor in decreasing the incidence of recurrent strokes. Fast results, available within an hour, mean that treatment can be adjusted in real-time, a crucial factor when every moment counts. For more on how Genomadix is contributing to personalized healthcare solutions and making strides in stroke prevention, please reach out to me or visit their website www.genomadix.com. It's not every day that one gets a chance to contribute and become part of a landmark event! I am proud to share the publication of our findings in a "game-changing" research on Dense Deposit Disease (DDD). Led by Dr. Sanjiv Sethi from Mayo Clinic, USA, our study has solved a long standing scientific mystery & identified Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) as the dominant component of dense glomerular deposits. This breakthrough has enabled a simple immunohistochemical (IHC) stain to provide a diagnosis in routine renal biopsies, obviating the need for Electron Microscopy in most cases. Our discovery will pave the way for better understanding of DDD and enable targeted treatment options in the future. #renalpathology #densedepositdisease #electronmicroscopy #paradigmshift #drlalpathlabs #ApolipoproteinE #nephrology #C3glomerulopathy #mayoclinicrochester

We’re still in the early stages of understanding the underlying genetics of AFib, but there is increasing recognition that genetic culprits for ventricular cardiomyopathies and arrhythmia syndromes might initially present with AFib. A recent, trailblazing white paper delves into this area of research, exploring how genetic testing could help screen for these life-threatening conditions in patients with early onset AFib. Inflammed Brain— Chronic inflammation within the gut can be preceded by inflammation in the brain. Part of this reasoning results from low vagal tone. (Vagus nerve stimulates the release of digestive enzymes and gastric acid, promoting efficient digestion— this starts in the brain) #braingutconnection Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), whether invasive or non-invasive, has emerged as a promising intervention in the field of Bioelectronic Medicine. VNS involves delivering electrical impulses to the VN, which can modulate its activity and thus influence inflammatory processes. The advantage of VNS lies in its ability to target specific neural pathways with minimal side effects compared to traditional pharmacological treatments that can trigger unfavorable side effects in the gut and liver.
