As the Secretary/Treasurer 💰 of the @National Society of Genetic Counselors, I had the privilege of attending the Professional Issues Panel at the #NSGC24 Annual Conference. 🙌🏾 The session brought together an impressive array of international voices in #GeneticCounseling, offering valuable insights into our profession’s global landscape. 🌎 Christopher Vella,Masakazu Nishigaki,Peter James Abad and Monica Araujo led the discussion and highlighted the need to ensure high-quality education and share resources across borders. Christopher emphasized the need for students worldwide to have access to the highest learning standards. Masakazu Nishigaki echoed this sentiment, suggesting that by comparing #GeneticCounseling platforms globally, we can identify core principles and leverage our diversity to benefit the entire profession. These perspectives opened the eyes of many attendees and underscored the value of international collaboration in advancing our field. Looking to the future, the panel was unified in their vision for genetic counseling in the next 5-10 years. Two primary goals emerged: achieving widespread reimbursement for our services and establishing permanency in our roles within healthcare systems. As someone deeply involved in the financial aspects of our organization, I couldn't agree more with these aspirations. It's also heartening to note that the evidence and methods we're using for genetic counselor recognition in the U.S. serve as a model for our colleagues worldwide in their own advocacy efforts. As we continue to grow and evolve as a profession, these international connections and shared goals will be crucial in shaping a strong, globally recognized field of genetic counseling.Thank you to our representatives from across the international genetic counseling community for your thoughtful insights and commitment to our profession both globally and within your communities.🙌🏾
