Two new Letters to the Editor! Follow the discussion regarding the recent publication about mixed connective tissue disease. Is MCTD a distinct entity? 🔸Original Article: This study shows that MCTD is a distinct entity that can be classified using either Kasukawa or Sharp criteria and that only 25.8 per cent of patients progress to a dCTD during follow-up. 🔸Letter to the Editor: If their clinical presentation is similar and the only difference is the antibody subtype, should we not lump these disorders within the same nosological entity with a common name — that is, SSc? The cohort from Chevalier et al. offers a unique opportunity to explore this question and enrich the debate on the existence of MCTD as a distinct entity. 🔸Authors Reply: We strongly disagree with the proposal to lump MCTD and SSc under the same name. Such a decision would be a simplistic mistake, whereas striving to enhance both the SSc and MCTD classifications could be a common objective. 🔗Original Article: https://lnkd.in/djRPsKcV 🔗🔗Letter to the Editor: https://lnkd.in/dKBdX7Hi 🔗🔗🔗Authors reply: https://lnkd.in/d_hWjz2S #Sjogrens #systemic #sclerose

🔬Elevating Patient-Centric Care in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases (CIDs) 🌟 🩺 At Avenna, our mission revolves around supporting the prognosis, diagnosis, and treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Diseases (CIDs). We prioritise patient satisfaction and aim to simplify the adoption of testing methods for early detection and personalised treatment. We are delighted to share our collaboration with Trajan Scientific and Medical in a pioneering research initiative. In partnership with Trajan, we are exploring Patient-Centric Microsampling using Trajan's Mitra® microsampling devices based on VAMS® technology. 🌐 The Goals: Test the Mitra Device as a new, patient-friendly blood microsampling method that is minimally invasive and easily performed in-house. Assess the method's capability to provide reliable information for N-glycan analysis and ensure the stability of blood samples during national and international shipping via standard mail. 📊 Trajan's Microsampling Research Support Program: This research is part of Trajan's Microsampling Research Support Program, demonstrating our shared commitment to advancing medical research. 🔍 What We're Looking For: Robustness and Stability of the sample: Ensuring the reliability of the microsampling method. User Feedback: Insights from both patients and technicians are invaluable to refining our approach. #PatientCentricCare #MicrosamplingResearch #InnovationInHealthcare #ChronicInflammatoryDiseases #GlyHealth #Glycans #CID #Inflammation #EarlyDetection #TreatmentPersonalisation #MitraDevices #Trajan

PFA atrial fibrillation ablation, using the pentaspline PFA catheter (Farawave, Farapulse-Boston Scientific , is SAFE! The results of MANIFEST-17K study, recently published in Nature Medicine, are indeed very impressive. The co-authors should be congratulated for tediously pooling together retrospective real-world data from 106 centers in 20 countries regarding 17,642 treated patients. This is clearly the largest PFA study so far. We need however to wait cautiously for long-term clinical outcome in order to be convinced that we’re positively benefiting the patients. https://lnkd.in/dszec8yq

💡 Research News 💡 In June we published an interesting study entitled "Long-term outcomes after echocardiography versus fluoroscopy-guided left atrial appendage closure: Is there still a role for a simplified approach?" with David Niederseer as co-author. 📃 Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) represents an alternative to oral anticoagulation for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). While transoesophageal echocardiography is the current standard for guiding LAAC procedures, several centers have employed fluoroscopic guidance alone. However, data on long-term outcomes are lacking. In this study LAAC with fluoroscopy guidance alone is equally safe and leads to similar clinical outcome compared to LAAC with additional echocardiography guidance. 📌 Link to full text: https://lnkd.in/e6H_epRg #ResearchHochgebirgsklinikDavos #davosscience #davosresearch #research #echocardiography #fluoroscopy David Niederseer Jan Vontobel Thomas Gilhofer Victor Konstantin Schweiger Mi Chen, Alessandro Candreva, Davide Di Vece, Christian Templin, Barbara E. 🌟 Exciting Research Update! 🌟 I'm thrilled to share that our latest paper, "Clustering Analysis of HRCT Parameters Measured Using a Texture-Based Automated System: Relationship with Clinical Outcomes of IPF," has been published in BMC Pulmonary Medicine. Authors: Jong-Uk Lee, Jong-Sook Park, Eunjeong Seo, Jin Seol Kim, Hae Ung Lee, Yongjin Chang, Jai Seong Park, & Choon-Sik Park. In this study, we explored the potential of automated quantitative analysis of high-resolution CT (HRCT) parameters to predict clinical outcomes in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). By analyzing HRCT images from 159 IPF patients using the AVIEW software from Coreline Soft, we identified key lung texture patterns such as honeycombing, reticulation, emphysema, consolidation, and ground glass opacity. Our cluster analysis revealed three distinct patient groups based on these parameters: 1️⃣ Cluster 1: Patients with the lowest parameter values, exhibiting the longest survival and well-preserved lung function, with a relatively high Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) and Diffusing Capacity of the Lungs for Carbon Monoxide (DLCO). 2️⃣ Cluster 2: Patients with high reticulation and consolidation scores, showing the lowest FVC and DLCO, and the shortest survival, predominantly affecting female patients. 3️⃣ Cluster 3: Male smokers with high honeycombing and emphysema scores, with intermediate survival rates and moderate FVC levels. This study underscores the effectiveness of automated quantitative CT analysis in predicting clinical outcomes in IPF and highlights the potential for identifying high-risk groups who may benefit from targeted management strategies. #ISMINIM2023 Wu Mingsong, Director/Chief Physician, Department of Oncology and Hematology, Beiliu People's Hospital, discussed on clinical practice in the minimally invasive and non-invasive treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer guided by integrated medical sciences. Initial progress has been made in integrated medical sciences of hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer, which deserves further exploration. Integrated medical sciences is an emerging medical system emphasizing on from “disease” to “patient”, embodying humanistic medicine. Minimally invasive intervention plus HIFU non-invasive ablation, as well as organic integration of other systemic treatments and conditioning, can benefit patients more.
