New course now available: Trauma Aware and Healing Informed Care Many people in aged care have experienced trauma, loss, and grief at some point in their lives. Understanding the trauma that older people have experienced and enabling the provision of trauma informed care is critical for wellbeing. By completing this course, learners will be able to: - Align trauma informed care with the Aged Care Quality Standards. - Identify older people at higher risk of traumatic life experiences. - Discuss the physiological effects of trauma. - Outline trauma informed care principles and how to incorporate trauma informed care into services for older adults. - Describe the responsibilities of registered nurses for trauma informed care. This course has been developed in a simplified e-learning format, featuring a full assessment to illustrate compliance. It should be completed by all Care Staff working in the aged care setting. What is the SUN - Substance Use Navigator program? The substance use navigator program was created to provide much needed assistance to patients who suffer #OUD -Opioid Use Disorder, as well as other substance related issues, while they're in the hospital. SUNs meet with patients in the ER and other units throughout the hospital including trauma, ICU, VMU, observation, and labor & delivery. We strive to provide the patient with support during their hospitalization and prepare them for a safe and successful discharge plan that focuses on them achieving a life of long term recovery, happiness, peace and purpose. Recently, I received an update from a patient of mine from L&D; she wrote to tell me that both her & baby were doing well, and that the SUN program had saved their lives. Without that bedside intervention, and personalized one-on-one care, things might have ended much differently. I'm amazed at what a little bit of compassion and understanding can do for someone struggling with #addiction. #recoveryispossible #SUN #substanceusedisorder #substanceusenavigator #recovery
