Lion Dance Everyone want to manipulates the lion head , but the you may not know that the dancer who manipulates the lion tial it is very important too. The dancer in the tail end of a lion dance is often overlooked, but very important. This person controls the rear of the lion, playing the rear legs, back, and tail. We often get told how cute our lions look when they wag their tails, and that’s all thanks to the performer in the back. The tail follows the head and wags the tail to create a realistic performance, and also boosts the person in the head during acrobatic stunts. In addition to following closely and maintaining a crouched position for maximum realism, the tail is also responsible for boosting the head in acrobatic situations. This requires significant strength and can vary from simple jumps to lifting the entire weight of their partner over their head. As I wrap a challenging first week in the #unrealfellowship, I must remind myself that this isn't my first time creating something from nothing. I worked at the #JMU costume shop creating garments for our student theatre productions. Later I worked for another shop creating costumes for ballet companies. I learned how to drape and make patterns on paper. The best part was "stitchin' & bitching" with the other women while constructing our garments. With either type of construction, the principles remain the same: 1. Have a clear plan before you start 2. Lean on your peers when you're stuck 3. If one small element isn't working, it can tragically impact the final project 4. Try to pinpoint and address micro issues before you move forward in the process 4. Do more with less, and KISS (keep it simple stupid) when you are a beginner 5. Get on a machine and experiment with new things often 6. Make sure you keep a good sense of humor and surround yourself with a good team

Sunday Story: Capturing the Circus Life The circus was once a major entertainment in Bangladesh. In the 90s, it amused many. Now, it's disappearing. Over the weekend, I made a documentary about the circus. I captured the diverse stories of circus performers. Most are poor and uneducated. When a product launch is immovable, when schedule rules everything. Some projects can tolerate delayed completion. Ballet productions cannot. When creating a new production, crafting and setting brand new choreography, making costumes, securing music rights, getting each nuance perfect, everything pivots on the first performance date, which is set far in advance of project launch.
