Pro tips for wildlife photography. 1. Animal Identification - This is a grizzly bear. 2. Small ears means this is a BIG Bear! This grizzly is in the 800lb range. 3. Note the powerful neck and big paws. 4. Get a gander at those claws. They are designed to do damage. 5. It's an excellent idea to have at least one other photographer on a shoot with you. There's safety in numbers. 6. It's helpful if the other photographer is slower than you but if it gets competitive out there don't be afraid to be trip the guy in front of you. A monopod, a branch or a stray foot will do the trick. 7. You don't have to be the fastest, just don't be the slowest. We will miss Bob at the monthly meetings.

National Dog Photography Day Tip 2 – FOCUS ON THE CAMERA One of the struggles that people seemed to have was getting their dog focused on the camera. These are some of the tricks I use to get my clients dogs to look at me. Make unusual sounds that your dog wont have heard before, ones that work for me are high pitched ‘keening’, ‘pa pa pa’, ‘brrrrrrr’ in different tones, crumpling a crisp packet above the camera (this is where putting a timer on helps). You may even get a cute head tilt! See if you can play a youtube sound of a duck caller if all else fails. For those who aren't sound orientated, one that seems to always work is the fake throw. Pretty difficult to do if you are on your own, but not impossible! Pretend to throw something over head in a short sharp movement (try using the timer again). Do you have a phrase that gets your dogs attention usually? My lot always focus on me when I start with ‘do you want’ so ‘do you want a biscuit’ ‘do you want to go for walkies’ - set yourself up to take the photo, then say your trigger words. Bonus points for anyone who is able to do a video of your dog reacting to some silly sounds! My dog hates the camera! For those who seem to not like the camera at all, maybe treat this as a trick training exercise. Bring out your camera and put a treat next to it – get them comfortable coming close and seeing it as a positive thing. Let me know how your dog reacts to sounds!

Our approach at Te Aroha Photography is to drill down deeper into farm life than the many other photographers who work in rural photography. There is a lot of very nice work: portraits, landscapes and decorative animal images. These photographs are heart warming. The partners in Te Aroha Photography are a veterinarian and a photographer. Our photographs are therefore taken at the workface of commercial farming. They present real veterinarian procedures and farming practices. We explore applying photographic techniques like stitched panoramas to subjects they wouldn't traditionally be used with. Our ambition is to tell the story of a entire procedure or task in one frame.

How Do You Judge A Wildlife Photo? People sometimes show me a wildlife photo and ask me what I think, but I always turn the question around. “What do you think of it yourself?” Aesthetics are subjective, so there’s no right or wrong answer, and my view is no more ‘valid’ just because I’m a professional wildlife photographer. However, if you asked me what makes a good photo, that requires a much longer answer…! #photocontests #wildlifephotography #rulesofcomposition #photojudging #onsafariwithnickdale https://lnkd.in/emxzCbpd
