Every dollar makes a difference. • $5 Could help provide 167 pediatric bandages for children during hospital visits. • $10 Could help provide 48 infant diapers to babies undergoing treatment. • $25 Help provide a St. Jude family with meals for one day in the Kay Kafe, the St. Jude cafeteria. • $57 Could help provide 14 thermometers for doctors to use at patients appointments. • $100 Could help to provide one red wagon. • $250 Could help to provide 10 days of meals for one parent or family member. • $500 Could help to provide 42 platelet count tests. During chemotherapy, the platelet count of patients can drop to dangerously low levels so platelet transfusions are essential for treatment. • $606 Could help cover the cost of two days of oxygen for a St. Jude patient. During treatment, St. Jude patients may need oxygen to help their bodies function properly and aid in healing. • $1,722 Could help cover 1 day of chemotherapy administered intravenously to leukemia or solid tumor patients.  Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancers from 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 80 percent today.

For blood cancer patients, numbers measure the difference between health, disease, and remission. In honor of those affected by blood cancer and those we’ve lost too soon because of it. Ovarian Cancer Australia is the national charity representing women living with Australia’s deadliest female cancer. Every day, we provide essential care and support to women living with ovarian cancer and represent them by leading change through advocacy to government and advisory bodies to ensure increased, targeted funding and access to optimal care. Ovarian Cancer Australia is the only charity providing specialist holistic and personal care to women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. With a 5-year survival rate of just 49%, it’s estimated that over the next 5 years, over 9,000 Australian women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and sadly, too many of these lives will be lost. The levels of psychological distress experienced by women with ovarian cancer are incredibly high, with women forced to deal with: • the severity of their surgery and other treatments that can result in surgical menopause and loss of fertility • how to tell their children about the impact of the disease will have on their family • coping with changes in their body that impact on their sexual functioning and relationship with their partner • the very real fear they experience when their cancer comes back, which unfortunately is a reality for the majority of women diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer It’s no wonder that almost half of the women diagnosed with ovarian cancer experience clinical levels of anxiety and depression. With your help, we can provide much-needed free, regular, and timely access to evidence-based support programs for more women living with ovarian cancer. This year, your fundraising from Dry July will directly support our counselling and psychology team, supporting women to access a suite of free specialist clinics and evidence-based programs targeting sexuality, grief and bereavement, fear of cancer recurrence, and sleep and fatigue. By raising funds and going dry this July, you can ensure that women living with ovarian cancer can access the specialist support they need and deserve.

I have gained a completely new perspective since meeting Kathleen Quintas. Trust me, if you speak to her, she will open your eyes to one of the biggest needs of families with children battling cancer that is rarely discussed - the need for support.   I think we all inherently agree that comprehensive services and support would be a positive thing for families, so ….. what could Kathleen Quintas possibly tell you to change your perspective ….. since you agree with the mission of Here to Serve, Inc. already??   How about the fact that: 1)     15,000 kids were diagnosed with cancer last year and 2)     Only 0.001% of billions of dollars in pediatric cancer funding went directly toward supporting families?   How about another perspective - if you're contemplating a donation towards a cancer-focused cause - to develop a successful cancer therapy it was recently estimated to take: 1)     10-15 years 2)     $1.3 BILLION   From now until the end of 2023, Here to Serve, Inc. is working to: 1)     raise $30,000, which 2)     will allow us to bring on another care coordinator 3)     to support up 40 additional families in 2024. We founded the Cure GM1 Foundation in her honor and in honor of all those suffering from GM1 gangliosidosis. Significant strides have been made. There have been 4 clinical trials since 2019 and there were no trials prior to the creation of Cure GM1. Tragically, only one trial is still running, the remaining trial is in Phase 3, the final stage. To make matters worse, rare disease programs have been shuttered due to a downturn in biotech and gene therapy. We try to remain hopeful, but the reality is that this fight continues and more help is needed. Children and babies are dying while programs are shelved. The science is known on how to help and yet programs are stopped due to money. There are still many ways that we can contribute to help, including next generation therapies, newborn screening, continued advocacy, and more. Thank you.
