The Veterans Health Administration is taking steps to identify how one's home can be an integral part of their health and safety. By “monitoring and tracking” Veterans within their homes, “analytics can feed back to you what you need to do better, or what risks you have within your own house" said Joe Ronzio, Deputy Chief Health Technology Officer for the VHA. The smart home technologies in production are aimed at reducing long-term care needs and some skilled nursing needs for aging Veterans. The VHA is also experimenting with various forms of artificial intelligence, including a deep learning model that digests radiological imaging. The co-computing system analyzes images to offer early detection of skin cancers and other types of malformations or abnormalities, Ronzio said. #AI #MachineLearning https://lnkd.in/ejW5WcXP

Great examples of what we need and how AI can help for better healthcare!
Thank you to The Globe and Mail for featuring Clarius yet again, this time focusing on how we're leveraging AI to address Canada's healthcare challenges. Embedding AI in our scanners makes ultrasound easier to use, enabling greater access to diagnostic imaging through many new users, such as nurses in indigenous communities, family doctors providing rural medicine and specialists performing safer procedures in their offices. All this helps alleviate pressure on our already stressed emergency rooms and hospitals. #pocus #ultrasoundtech #imagingai #aihealthcare Clarius Mobile Health

Here at #HIMSS2024 and the preconference #AI #Healthcare Forum is where it is at! HIMSS is starting strong with opening sessions including this panel on the Healthcare AI Evolution: A Roadmap for Success with Harvey Castro, MD, MBA., Anna Schoenbaum- DNP, MS, RN, NI-BC, FHIMSS, Sunil Dadlani, and Richard Cramer Love the points about: 👉Moving past the "shining" AI and focusing on problems is key 👉Implementing #AI is not a "one and done" investment. It is an on-going investment that includes governance, guardrails, data management, and informed consent 👉Once again building #trust through transparency with both patients and providers is key for sustainable adoption 👉The black box #AI without explainable results does not lend itself to building trust 👉Its not just about model performance, it is about understanding the implications or unintended consequences that can emerge with clinical implementation. Critical to understand before scaling! But the #micdrop moment came from Anna when she highlighted the importance of #humanconnectedness when it comes to delivery of care of our own loved ones. As someone leading DigiCARE Realized, a #healthtech focused in AI-powered early detection in #alzheimersdisease and related dementia, we understand it is not just about model performance, but it is working with our #healthsystems to deliver routine brain care for our growing, aging population, including in communities of color. Cheers to modernizing care in complex brain disease.

🌟 **Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Revolutionize Primary Care at the VA** 🌟 What I would want to see and what I’m sure the National Artificial Intelligence Institute is working hard to develop: 🔍 **Personalized Care Plans:** By analyzing vast datasets (which the VA is known for), AI can help tailor treatment plans to the individual needs and health history of each veteran, potentially leading to better health outcomes. 🧬 📈 **Predictive Analytics:** AI can identify veterans at high risk of developing certain conditions before they manifest, enabling preventative measures to be taken much earlier, saving lives, and reducing healthcare costs. 🚀 📊 **Streamlining Administrative Tasks:** AI can automate routine tasks such as scheduling appointments, processing paperwork, and managing patient records, allowing us, the clinicians, to focus more on patient care. 🗃️ 🔬 **Enhanced Diagnostic Accuracy:** With the ability to analyze imaging/labs with superhuman precision, AI can assist providers in early and accurate diagnosis, leading to more timely treatment. 🩺 🗣️ **Ambient AI Dictation:** This WILL alleviate provider burnout by documenting patient visits automatically. This innovation not only frees up valuable time for us, but also ensures more accurate and comprehensive patient records. Providers can spend more time caring for veterans, enhancing access to care and improving the patient-provider relationship. 🤖 🌐 **Remote Monitoring and Care:** For veterans living in remote areas and our homeless veterans via mobile clinics, AI-powered tools can monitor health in real-time and provide virtual consultations, ensuring that no veteran is left behind due to geographical/financial constraints. 🛰️ 📝 **Enhanced Patient Engagement:** With ambient AI dictation, veterans can receive a concise summary of their care at each visit, empowering them with clear understanding and ownership of their health journey. This transparency fosters trust and ensures veterans are fully informed about their treatment plans. ✉️ The potential benefits of AI in primary care at the VA are immense, but so are the challenges, including ethical considerations, data security, and the need for robust training for healthcare providers. As we navigate these challenges, it is crucial that we keep the welfare and dignity of our veterans at the forefront of our efforts along with the health and wellbeing of those that care for them. 💖 #VeteransAffairs #ArtificialIntelligence #HealthcareInnovation #PrimaryCare #VeteranCare FYI: AI assisted post/image

Studies at various universities have shown that AI-generated work in radiology can be more accurate and completed more quickly. With an aging healthcare workforce, it's also imperative that younger physicians continue to join the ranks. A more efficient department, supported by AI, could be the solution. Patient triage, autopopulating data, recording patient statistics, and analyzing the information on the back end are other ways in which AI can support ongoing patient care and departmental efficiency. Have you ever been afraid to move your body after an injury as a result of pain or fear of worsening the injury? That's called "kinesiophobia", according to Ross Zafonte, President of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and machine learning could be a remedy. More AI research needs to be dedicated to physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) Zafonte said in his keynote at #AICures2024. In 2023, a record high of 56% physicians in their final year of residency training were contacted by recruiters over 100 times, the highest number since 1991. With a population of over 85-year-olds expected to triple in the U.S. by 2050, the existing PM&R shortfall must be urgently addressed. During his keynote, Zafonte spoke about the importance of machine learning not just in offering precision therapy, but also for scaling therapeutic practice. He highlighted robotic-assisted therapies and video tracking techniques as new ways ML has been used in rehabilitation medicine, noting that the remote flexibility of these approaches could significantly benefit patients who are kinesiophobic. #OccupationalHealthMonth #aiforgood #aiforhealth #healthcareinnovation

🌟 AI Revolution in Healthcare: Saving Lives from Sepsis 🌟 Here are 3 key highlights from the latest research: 1️⃣ *AI Against Sepsis*: Researchers at UC San Diego School of Medicine have made a groundbreaking stride in healthcare using AI. Their AI model, COMPOSER, now in use at UC San Diego Health, has significantly lowered sepsis-related deaths by 17%. This life-saving tech continuously monitors over 150 patient variables, predicting sepsis risks before they become clinically apparent. 2️⃣ *Smart & Subtle Technology*: COMPOSER works discreetly in the background, analyzing data like vital signs and medical history. It's a silent guardian in the emergency department, alerting nurses and doctors when patients show high sepsis risk, ensuring timely and accurate treatment plans. 3️⃣ *Pioneering AI Healthcare*: UC San Diego Health isn't just stopping at sepsis. They're leading the way in integrating AI into healthcare, with initiatives like their AI-powered electronic health records and partnership with Microsoft for more empathetic communication in caregiving. This is just the beginning of a new era where AI meets patient care. 🔍 For a deeper dive into how AI is transforming healthcare and saving lives, check out the full study in the npj Digital Medicine. #AIHealthcare #SepsisPrevention #UCSDInnovation #DigitalMedicine #AIRevolution 🚑💡🤖 https://lnkd.in/g9A8-tnf
