Gage Dufour, a graduate from Riverdale High School's Class of 2024, approached graduation day with a mix of nerves and excitement. Throughout his high school journey, he excelled in the IB English program while also distinguishing himself as a star athlete. Initially a football player for three seasons at Riverdale, Gage later chose to dedicate himself fully to baseball. One of his most cherished high school memories is from a pivotal game against De Lasalle on their senior game night, where he delivered a standout performance that clinched victory for his team. Despite being born with Poland syndrome—a birth defect with symptoms also affecting finger growth—Gage never allowed it to hinder him. Instead, he mastered the use of both hands and never used it as an excuse. Looking forward, Gage plans to further his education at John Melvin University, where he aims to refine his baseball skills with aspirations of reaching the major leagues. He credits his parents for their unwavering support throughout his educational journey. “I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t put in one hundred percent effort. You have to take advantage of all the opportunities given.” -Gage Dufour #JPSchools #HighSchool #Graduate #ClassOf2024 #FutureLeaders #ChooseJPSchools #BuildingBrightFutures #Riverdale #Rebels #TopRatedSchool

This is the difference between a truly Co-Curricular athletics focus versus an Extra-curricular focus!
"What are we doing to get them ready to compete in life?" A really interesting video from high school football coach, Randall Zimmerman, on the importance of sport and coaching being used to prepare students for life, as opposed to just a college scholarship, given the numbers of players who go onto to play football in college. Recents statistics from the NCAA revealed that there were 1,006,013 registered high-school players, but only 73,712 playing in college/university, equating to 7.3%. Of the 7.3%, of these 2.9% play Division 1, 2.9% play Division 2, and 2.5% play Division 3. A good question for all coaches and teachers is, how are you preparing your students for life, and how does what you do transcend sport?

This will be interesting to see how it plays out 10 years from now.
John Carroll University's momentum continues with a new era for athletics: The Blue Streaks will join the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) in Fall 2025. “At John Carroll, students can pursue excellence in the classroom and on the playing field without sacrificing one for the other,” said Director of Athletics Brian Polian ‘97. “We work everyday to attract the type of student who wants an exceptional Jesuit education and who wants to compete at the highest level of Division III athletics. We believe that joining the NCAC aligns John Carroll with peer institutions that share a common mission and that attract students from across the country.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/gcNkKSXv

U.S. College Soccer - One-of-a-kind Following my critique of the lack of a true semi-pro league in the U.S. soccer ecosystem, it's only fair that I give America the credit it deserves for the success of its college soccer system. College soccer is the perfect opportunity for varying levels of footballers who are looking to continue playing high level soccer, while simultaneously working towards a degree. The U.S. system offers the perfect balance of high-level sports and education. Comparatively, the football landscape worldwide forces players to abandon their education somewhere between 16-18, leaving them with a severe lack of qualifications should they fail to meet the grade. Considering only a fraction of young footballers make it pro, and even less to the elite level, thousands of young people are being chewed up and spat out by the system every year. There's a reason why internationals are flocking from all over the world to get involved in college soccer! #CollegeSoccer #USsoccer

Tell Ivies your WHY so they can trust you. When Ivy League schools offer you a spot in their class they’re making investment in your future. You need to tell them why you’re doing all the hard work that you claim to be doing so that they can have a reasonable expectation that when they put you under pressure at their school, you’re going to be able to hold up and accomplish all the things that they expect you will. #ivyleague #ivyroadmap #harvard #collegeessay #why

Although we are now grownups Antoan is still living the dream and I had to get a real job.... 😉 Playing sports teaches work ethic, teamwork and discipline that can be important in your career after your playing days are over. #mlb #college #baseballlife #collegeathletics
