This Summer PFTSTA students traveled to the University of Maryland - College Park for the National History Day competition. We are very proud of them and the hard work they put into preparing for this competition. Thank you to Ms. Miller and Ms. Hampton for their help in preparing the students. Thank you to the The National WWII Museum for making this trip possible. #REPOST #JPSchools #HighSchool #nhd #nationalhistoryday #turningpointsinhistory #ChooseJPSchools

Civic education in the United States faces a critical juncture, lacking a unified approach within the entire educational system. The integration of civic education is inconsistent, reflecting the need for a standardized national curriculum on US civics that fosters understanding of civic duties, responsibilities, and rights, all crucial for nurturing well-informed and participative citizens. MPA Alejandro Ramos explores this gap in American education and makes recommendations for implementing a comprehensive civic education curriculum, emphasizing the imperative for informed citizenship. Patriotism, the deep love and devotion towards one's country, holds different meanings for students. As we explore six patriotic colleges, it's important to acknowledge that patriotism can be subjective and vary from person to person. For some, it represents a strong sense of national pride and loyalty, while for others, it signifies a commitment to democratic values and social justice. Understanding this diverse interpretation of patriotism allows us to appreciate the range of expressions and experiences within these colleges, where students can cultivate their own understanding of patriotism while pursuing higher education. https://lnkd.in/girNyUTg

Executive Director NorCal School of the Arts, Instructor Sac State University, Board Member for Sacramento Alliance for Regional Arts
I am grateful to contribute to enhancing child development through arts education. Here are some ways in which the arts can nurture the growth of young individuals: 🧑🎨Creativity: Arts education fosters creativity in children by encouraging them to think outside the box and express themselves in unique ways. 🧠Critical Thinking: Engaging in the arts helps children develop critical thinking skills as they analyze and interpret various forms of art. 💁♀️Confidence: Through arts education, children gain confidence in their abilities as they explore different art forms and showcase their talents. 🌏️Cultural Awareness: Exposure to different art forms exposes children to diverse cultures and traditions, fostering a sense of cultural awareness and appreciation. 💜Emotional Intelligence: The arts provide a platform for children to explore and understand their emotions, leading to enhanced emotional intelligence and self-awareness.

At a time when many are approaching the date for their academic results from exams, consider the wider breadth of abilities mentioned in the post below. As whole individuals we may not be recognised for our breadth of abilities measured by exams. In addition, our ability to develop our EQ can help us help others through the challenging area of 'results pressure'. #emotionalintelligence
Although Howard Garner faced criticisms for his multiple intelligences I feel it is a useful reminder that ‘smart’ or ‘ability’ isn’t just about the top three here - ie those which are at the core of the (current) scholastic system. Everything else here is too often classed as ‘extra-curricular’ - almost ‘secondary’. 🙁 Of course, members of this forum may be drawn to the inter- and intra-personal elements (#emotionalintelligence) - though we should also look for the gifts children (and adults) have across these ‘intelligences’ and support, celebrate, and validate them as having (at least) equal worth to ‘IQ’.

As students begin to research and prepare for your 2025 National History Day project, they might wonder what is considered "reasonable help" from a trusted adult like a teacher or parent. Students are responsible for the research, design, and creation of their entry, but examples of reasonable help are below. #NHD2025 #RightsAndResponsibilities #ProjectBasedLearning

Great article. "For generations, intelligence tests have played an outsize role in America, helping at times to control who can join the military and at what rank, who can enroll in the nation’s most elite private schools, and even who can be executed under federal law. They have also played a large role in America’s public schools, helping to determine from the earliest grades who can access extra help and accelerated learning and who can reap the benefits of high expectations."

Fascinating article reminding us about the apparent subjectivity of referrals for special services. Time is of the essence for children who are #neurodiverse to receive academic support so they can maintain academic progress and so they don’t develop lifelong negative self perceptions. #developmentaldisabilitiesawareness #afterschool #summercamps
