The 2024 Olympics start today and the swim trials in Indy were exciting. The transformation of Lucas Oil Stadium into a "natatorium" along with the activity in the Convention Center and along Georgia Street had something for just about everyone. One of the attractions was the Eiffel Tower replica and JQOL invites you to click the link and read about our role behind the design. https://lnkd.in/gtqYMTse #QualityofLife #StructuralEngineering #2024Olympics #EiffelTowerIndy

🔙 #ThrowbackThursday to 2015 when we had the opportunity to reconfigure the seating at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) stadium. This daunting project involved carefully dismantling and re-erecting the stadium structure and was a testament to the power of innovation and precision. The hero of the project was our ‘Air Skate’ technology! These robust, low-profile, high-capacity load-moving modules were used to move 20,000 seats with very minimal resistance. They essentially work in the very same way as air hockey tables. With the help of fluid dynamics, the modules create a thin cushion of air between the load and the ground, reducing the friction to ultra-low levels and giving movers much more control. This sped up the process and reduced high-risk activities such as craneage and work at height. The success of this project has ensured that the QEOP stadium can be utilized to its full potential, accommodating a wide range of events from football to concerts, and almost every sport and event in between. The use of ‘Air Skates’ in this project showcased that cutting-edge technology can revolutionize traditional processes. It’s a reminder that innovation is not just about creating new things but also how to enhance the already existing process for efficiency. #LondonStadium #PHDAccess #AirSkates #Innovation #Technology #GrowWithPHD

How does your stadium stand up to the elements? Does it rattle in the wind? Can you see daylight through the joints? Rain pouring into the space below? Paint system doesn’t stand up to hard use? Or, our personal favorite, showing signs of #corrosion? 😨 SPS was invented to withstand the HARSHEST conditions on the planet, particularly in the #offshoreindustry, and it’s been doing that successfully for over 20 years! Choose a system designed to take on the hard stuff. 💪 Your fans DESERVE it. Briljant idee van Jay Rayner: de Olympische Vreetspelen! 😋 I know how to improve the Olympics | by Jay Rayner | The Guardian In a few days the Paris Olympics will begin. This should be a moment of true joy and excitement but, honestly, I’m not feeling it. This is because I find the whole sporting shebang terribly unrelatable. It’s about people who can jump high, throw things a long way or run fast. I can do none of these things; I haven’t run anywhere since that unfortunate incident during cross-country in 1980. The Olympics weren’t always like this. From 1912 to 1948, they included cultural contests in things such as painting, music, literature and town planning. That’s more inclusive but I’m still not sure I’d thrive. I’m not up to planning a whole town under competition conditions. What’s needed, so that people like me can get involved, is a food aspect. What we need are proper food contests that challenge the very character, good taste and stamina of the competitors. And I am the man to shape those events. Let’s start with the edible decathlon, a gruelling series of 10-course tasting menus. Points are awarded for clearing each plate and saying smart things about them, and deducted for rolling your eyes and muttering “Christ, is there much more of this?” under your breath. In a similar vein there’s the long lunch mixed doubles, in which two couples join each other at a restaurant at 1pm and attempt to make it through to the dinner service, without running out of things to say, visibly getting drunk or lapsing into unconsciousness. There will, of course, be strict rules defining gaps between courses and portion size. This is a serious competition. That demands an internationally recognised set of regulations. https://lnkd.in/eGTQ9_VX #Paris #Olympics #food #contest #edible #decathlon #long #lunch #mixed #doubles #LaGrandeBouffe

As the countdown to the XXXIII Olympic Games in Paris ticks away, the city is making preparations that will completely shift its urban landscape and infrastructure. Set to be the largest event ever organized in France, the games will start on 26 July and continue till 11 August 2024. With only 200 days left, the Paris City Council has approved around 43 new initiatives acting as a catalyst for the city's transformation – aiming for a greener, healthier, and mobile Paris. From cleaning the Seine River to building a cycling lane, activating a transit line, and banning non-essential city traffic, the heart of the French capital is on a mission against time to revitalize its historic urban core. Integral to Paris’s ambitious vision is its “Swimming Plan,” which aims to transform the Seine into a venue for aquatic Olympic events the city aims to implement new underground pipes, tanks, and pumps that are designed to clean up the river from harmful bacteria. Although the river has not been open for public swimming for over a century, the city plans to change that for the notorious games. In fact, “The goal is to have what is essentially a giant rainwater holding tank, measuring 50m wide and 34m deep, capable of storing up to 46m liters ready by spring.” However, according to experts, the billion-dollar effort to clean up the river may take much longer than planned to execute.
