Emphasis is on 1. improving soil health, combined with 2. regular soil analysis and 3. precise fertiliser usage, when analysis shows need. Boston Consulting Group state that Regen Ag "steady state does not mean the farmer does not have to remain vigilant. Excited about getting my first field trials underway with biochar! Many institutions studying biochars effect on crops will often apply it at a high rate (15 - 20 tonnes per hectare). This can provide useful insights to how it impacts soil health, but results typically can't be extrapolated to a commercial scale. (An application rate that high would cost 400 - 800k for your average Canadian farmer.) This trial aims to determine application rates of biochar that if applied, would make economic sense for a farmer.
