A little variety today. Looking for some help if you would be willing to share a thought. It would help me out a lot. I posted the other day about goals. I have personally found these to be one of the main links between today and a successful future. I have seen it for many clients as well. The problem is I don’t sense much excitement from others when talking about goals. I will never forget one client who had just crushed most of her goals for the first two years. She exclaimed, “This is awesome!” when we took a look back at her progress. It was a crucial moment of revelation and celebration. So much hard work is accomplished in the day-to-day trenches and her goals allowed her to poke her head up, look around, and realize her tremendous progress! Here is what I am asking for help with. If you were guessing, when looking around at successful people in the U.S. today, what is holding them back from getting excited about goals? There is no right or wrong answer, or, if there is, I would love to know what the answer is. 😂 I would welcome any responses if you'd be willing to comment, DM, or send a carrier pigeon. I totally respect that replying to these posts is not everyone's thing as well, so no pressure. Either way, thank you for reading and thinking through this with me. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝟱𝟮: 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲’𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 As we wrap up a week of intentional living and proactive behaviours, I want to emphasize the importance of balancing our approach to money and life. A couple months ago I read the book "Die with Zero" by Bill Perkins, which covers this topic extensively. While the title may sound provocative, the underlying message is about optimizing our financial decisions to live life to the fullest, while also ensuring we're prepared for the unexpected. Here are a few of my key takeaways: 𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: One of the central themes of the book is the idea of "dying with zero" - using your wealth to create memorable experiences and enriching moments throughout your life. Perkins encourages readers to shift their mindset from accumulating money to maximizing the value of their time and resources in the present. 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: While embracing the philosophy of living for the moment, Perkins also emphasizes the importance of prudent financial planning. It's not about recklessly spending all your money, but rather finding a balance between enjoying life now and preparing for the future. 𝗥𝗲𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: The book prompts readers to reevaluate their financial priorities and goals. It encourages introspection about what truly brings you fulfillment and happiness, challenging the notion that financial success is solely defined by the size of your bank account. 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴: It also reminds us that the value of experiences can diminish over time, and that many items on our bucket list are best done right now and not when we retire. Sky diving is far more enjoyable when your body is young, while catching up on the top 100 books of all time can be left to an age when you’re less active, so make sure you plan accordingly! Ultimately, the book underscores the value of creating lasting memories and experiences with loved ones. Whether it's traveling the world, pursuing passions, or giving back to others. It reminds us to be purposeful with our money and time, using it to enrich our lives and the lives of those around us. #Life #DieWithZero #Money

🚗 Who’s in the driver’s seat of your life? 🛤️ From a young age, I designed the future I thought I was "supposed to" live: ➡️ Be a good student ➡️ Work hard, study hard ➡️ Get a good job I pursued a path in the medical field and joined the Navy to follow in my family’s footsteps to serve my country. And while I have no regrets about my military career, my identity became tied to my profession. After retiring from the military, I had to rediscover who I am and what was important to me. I spent so much time focused on what I was “supposed to do” I rarely took the time to ask, what I wanted to do, what was important to me. I found myself just going through the motions. I felt stuck in my routines, juggling work, family, and personal commitments. I was feeling the pressures of stress and burnout. I spent years living to please others, never asking what *I* wanted. But then I discovered something that changed everything. What if you could control your financial future and life? Imagine having the freedom to spend your time how you want. Our family began pursuing financial and time freedom about 6 years ago, and the number one tool that has been helping us accelerate our timeline has been investing in real estate: 📚 Educate yourself and connect with investors 🌟 Explore investment opportunities 🏡 Buy passive income-generating properties 🔑 Control your financial destiny I’m now building a life I don’t need a vacation from, and you can too! 🌟 Advice I'd Give to My Younger Self 🌟 Reflecting on my journey, here are three crucial lessons I wish I'd learned earlier: 1. Focus on Finances💰 - Start Early: Begin saving and investing as soon as possible. Time is your greatest ally in building wealth. - Budget Wisely: Understand the importance of budgeting and living within your means. Track your expenses and make informed financial decisions. - Avoid Debt: Steer clear of unnecessary debt. If you must borrow, ensure it's for something that will grow in value, like education or a home. 2. Don't Get Fooled Easily🕵️♂️ - Stay Informed: Educate yourself about potential scams and bad investments. Knowledge is your best defense. - Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek advice from trusted mentors or financial advisors. - Trust Your Instincts: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Trust your gut and do thorough research before making commitments. 3. Be Kind to Yourself 💖 - Embrace Mistakes: Everyone makes mistakes. The key is to learn from them and move forward. Don’t be too hard on yourself. - Balance: Maintain a healthy work-life balance. Your mental and physical health are paramount. - Celebrate Wins: Take time to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognize your progress and growth. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Stay curious, resilient, and always strive for growth. 🌱 #FinancialWisdom #PersonalGrowth #LifeLessons #Resilience

A Life Lived on Purpose 🌟 Money is a means to an end—not the end itself. While it’s important to manage finances wisely, don’t let numbers overshadow what truly matters: living a meaningful life. 📝 Top Regrets of the Dying: 1. Not living true to oneself. 2. Working too hard. 3. Not expressing feelings. 4. Losing touch with friends. 5. Not allowing more happiness. 💡 What This Means for Financial Planning: 1. Plan for tomorrow while enjoying today. 2. Link your financial goals to your lifestyle, not arbitrary wealth targets. 3. Invest not just money, but also your time, energy, and talent. Ask yourself: 1. What do I truly value? 2.What have I been putting off? 3. How can I align my money with my purpose? Life isn’t measured by spreadsheets or charts but by the moments, connections, and experiences we create. Make today count while planning for the future. #PurposefulLiving #FinancialFreedom #LifeAndMoney #MeaningfulLife #FinancialPlanning

One of the challenges I had to overcome was moving from instant gratification thinking to delayed gratification thinking. Playing the long game takes vision and discipline. In my youth, I lived entirely in the present moment. It had its joys, but also its consequences. I focused on what benefited me immediately, often deferring long-term planning like retirement or envisioning my later years with an "I'll figure it out later" attitude. But becoming a parent or perhaps reaching midlife brought a profound change. Suddenly, I saw both ahead and behind me simultaneously. I realized the balance of life and my responsibility to future generations. I also became acutely aware of time squandered. This journey gifted me wisdom and foresight, though I regret not starting sooner with my long-term financial planning. Time is the greatest asset, crucial for compound interest and growth. As they say, "I wish I knew then what I know now!" Amid life's busyness, with bills, responsibilities, and endless to-dos, I urge you to plan for the long game. Allocate a percentage of your income towards your future vision. Let it compound to support you during your harvest years. While cherishing the present and being grateful for today, strive for balance. It's about nurturing both immediate satisfaction and long-term security.
