Highlighted in Architectural Record, the Populus Hotel in Denver, CO blends nature-inspired design with environmentally conscious hospitality. Completed in 2024, the building is said to be the country’s first carbon positive hotel. Developed by Urban Villages, designed by Studio Gang, and constructed/installed by The Beck Group/Douglass Colony Group the 265-room property aims to bolster a sleepier part of town by giving visitors and locals a reason to hang around. The hotel incorporated the Garden Roof® Assembly, designed/installed by Superbloom / GREEN ROOFS OF COLORADO LLC, that integrates native trees and vegetation to compliment the amenity deck for a more natural setting. The Ultimate Assembly® was used at the rooftop restaurant and bar featuring glacier white pavers in an open joint pedestal paver configuration. This project involved the conservation and conversion of the original 18th-century fort and associated buildings, refurbishment of the existing hotel and the design of a new hotel block. The project also included the design and construction of the new Palisades restaurant, pool and bar facilities, and a 200-seat conference center completed by ADS.
