Memorial is launching an educational program “A Person in History: (Post)Soviet Experience” for participants aged 16–19. This program offers young researchers the opportunity to explore the lives of individuals whose experiences reflect key events of the 20th century. This year's theme is “Visions of the Future”. Students will search for and analyze documents and artistic works to understand how people of the recent past envisioned the future. Along the way, they will learn what historical sources are and how to work with them. The program includes: - Practical sessions and workshops with historians - Group work and curator support - Development of historical research skills - Development of an individual research project - An opportunity to connect with peers worldwide All graduates who submit their research projects by April 27 will receive certificates and gifts. The authors of the best projects, selected through a competitive process, will be awarded a trip to Memorial's Summer School in August 2025. There, participants will engage in workshops such as film, shadow theater, animation, and more. FLA’s newest advisory committee, Open Science & Scholarship, was endorsed by the Governing Board in 2023. The committee is using its first term to August 2025 to further define IFLA’s contributions to these issues, raise awareness among the Federation, collaborate with other IFLA units and partners to shape opinion and debate around open access and library values, including intellectual freedom and human rights. Other issues that intersect with open science and scholarship include copyright reform and rights retention, equity and diversity (in all forms), trust and misinformation. https://lnkd.in/dPpxDq-e

How to engage students? My students work every day from Monday to Friday from 8 am till 12:30. It's a heavy workload. What do we do? Every week I try to organize different activities. Last week we went to the museum, where my students had a guided tour. So, they can practice Listening and Speaking skills. Today we've been to the library :) #education #languagelearning #teaching

Very excited that our article "Social infrastructuring in public libraries: librarians' continuous care in everyday library practice" is out now with the Journal of Documentation - we push the notion of social infrastructure, and propose three modes of social infrastructuring via care in public libraries: (1) maintaining (2) building connections (3) drawing boundaries Practices of care are prominent in each of these infrastructuring modes: librarians infrastructure the library with and via their care practices. Whilst care practices are difficult to quantify and verbalise, they are valuable for library patrons. By using the concept of tinkering, the article conceptualises librarians’ infrastructuring enactments as crucial community-building aspects of libraries. Three Cline Library colleagues partnered with collaborators from University of Arizona and Diné College to present "Collaborative Care for Moving Images on the Colorado Plateau" at the 2024 Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums (ATALM) conference, held from November 12-14 in Palm Springs. NAU’s Nix Mendy, Sam(antha) Meier and Kelly Phillips discussed their work on “Digitizing the Moving Images of the Colorado Plateau and the American Southwest,” a three-year project funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This project builds capacity to care for audiovisual materials held by NAU and Indigenous partners the Hualapai Tribe, the Hopi Tribe, and Diné College on the Navajo Nation. A key aspect of the NAU team’s approach was learning how to digitize film first, then engaging with the tribes to discuss their films, thereby gaining expertise and sharing knowledge. The tribes retain full autonomy over how they wish to provide access to their films in the future, with the team offering guidance. Fellow presenters Jennifer L. Jenkins of University of Arizona and Rhiannon Sorrell of Diné College shared how their NEH project, “Tribesourcing Southwest Film” merged with NAU’s. For example, some Diné College films digitized by the Cline Library project will be embedded into the Tribesourcing Southwest Film project, of which Jenkins is the principal investigator and Sorrell is the Diné narration coordinator.
