Every great day starts with a good breakfast. In the wee hours this morning, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s CEO Nat Ford and Executive Leadership Team served up biscuit sandwiches, fresh fruit, muffins, OJ, and hot coffee to our frontline employees, before they rolled out to serve the community. To our professional bus operators, maintenance technicians, service station utility workers, operations supervisors, and our dispatch team - we appreciate you 💯

This morning our receiving crew had 2 live unload containers and our receiving team was a bit overwhelmed. However, with the grit, determination and quick thinking both the receiving lead and I have, we were side-by-side our associates with all hands on deck unloading floor loaded containers all within 3 hours.
With that being said, I believe as a leader, allowing yourself to be humbled sometimes is a must.
I remember when I was a warehouse associate and how motivated I felt when I would see someone from a leadership role like Justin Yarbrough or Aaron Barnes step up and step in to get a job done with me. Although I have been where every associate is at some point to reach a leadership role, I never want to forget where I started.
I’ve learned you don’t lead or build trust with a team by just making constant demands, but you do build a strong team when push comes to shove and your actions displayed are “we are in this together, let’s get the job done.” and empty 2 containers with them.
We have an amazing team with can-do attitudes and although my body may be beaten, bruised and hurting for the next week 😂 I have so much gratitude and truly am blessed to have and lead a team like ours at our Rockwall DC.

Leadership failures led to physical violence at a McDonald's in North Carolina a few weeks ago. Did you catch it in the news? A manager-in-training felt she was being "disrespected", so she called her husband, who happens to be a pastor of a church, and asked him to come and "take care" of an employee, and he comes over and after punching the employee a few times, tries to put the employee's head into the deep fryer!!! Can't make this up!!
* If you are a new leader, like a manager-in-training, you must know that you are going to have to "earn your stripes" and you are going to have to earn the respect and loyalty of the people you supervise. If you need to call and vent to your spouse, or friend, or family member, or mentor, that is okay and encouraged as we all have bad days. BUT you can NOT call your spouse because your feelings are hurt and you feel "disrespected" and ask your spouse to come "take care" of someone!
* If you are a pastor of a church, certainly a leadership position, you should be leading by example. It is a shame that in the time it took for this man to grab his car keys and drive to the McDonald's he apparently NEVER paused long enough to THINK things through, did not consider Galatians 5:22 and the fruit of the Spirit, and he certainly did not consider Proverbs 15:1, a gentle response defuses anger.
My first YT incident debriefing video of the 2024 season dives into the leadership and ministry failures that led to this unfortunate and very avoidable incident.

In our LEAD-R Program we understand what it means to be Response-able.
“Response-ability is your source of power and integrity, the power to influence your situation and the integrity to do so in alignment with your (& company) values.”
LEAD-R 1-2-1 Coaching with leaders involves mastering the self discipline to engage, learn and be accountable when it comes to health & safety in with their teams and workplaces. This is part of how we build capability in organisations.
Often what you see in a workplace will trigger a response from you.
👇🏼Below Naomi Kemp challenges you to respond in a Friday Frame post.

Let's shift the focus from quick fixes to building lasting connections that drive systemic change.
It's about fostering a culture where leaders actively engage with their teams, understanding their experiences, pressures, and aspirations. Taking the time to connect on a personal level not only strengthens the team but also opens the door to valuable insights and innovative ideas.
By prioritizing genuine connection and collaboration, we pave the way for a workplace culture that not only retains talent but also sparks positive transformations throughout the entire organization.

If you are looking to the unit pizza party as a means of staff retention, you’ve probably already missed significant and critical culture and team building opportunities. The pizza party can’t save you.
Start, instead, by spending time with your team. At every level. Ask them about their perceptions of their job. Find out their pressure points. In this “abiding,” you may hear the most beautiful thoughts, the most inspired ideas.
THEN have that pizza party. You might even be invited to sit at the table!
