Maybe Charlie Brown was right when he said, "Good grief." Each round of grief seems different. Another round. Another cycle. Another period. Another pain. No rhyme or reason. They're all different, and yet they all hurt the same. Being told I have endometriosis. Being told post-op I was daily fighting Stage 3. Feeling the same pain after going out for a run. Being told I have to go in for another surgery. Being told I had severe adhesions. Being told my chances to get pregnant are grim. IUI 1 unsuccessful. IUI 2 unsuccessful. Practicing good grief is my challenge for this year. 🌟 **Celebrating Our Little Warrior's Progress** 🌟 We are thrilled to share the inspiring journey of our 3-month-old baby, born with Arthrogryposis (Amyoplasia), Congenital Dislocation of the knee, and CTEV (Congenital Talipes Equinovarus). Due to improper care elsewhere, he also developed additional tibial deformities. However, thanks to the expertise and dedication of our medical team, he underwent a successful single-stage correction and now enjoys improved knee movements. The road ahead includes further correction for his feet, but his remarkable progress so far gives us immense hope and pride. This journey underscores the importance of specialized pediatric care and the incredible resilience of young patients. We hope our story brings encouragement to other parents and caregivers facing similar challenges. Dr. Noelle Guthrie and colleagues recently published the lead article in The Journal of Arthroplasty titled, “The Pregnant Arthroplasty Surgeon: A Women in Arthroplasty Committee Editorial”. Women orthopaedic surgeons face unique challenges during their careers. There are extremely low numbers of women in the field, particularly in the specialty of Adult Reconstruction. Issues pertaining to pregnancy, lactation and parenthood pose potential barriers to success for women in orthopaedic surgery. These concerns may dissuade talented women from pursuing a rewarding career in Adult Reconstruction. By being more inclusive, Adult Reconstruction will have access to the best possible surgeons, which will benefit not only patients but the field as a whole. New solution for neuromuscular early-onset scoliosis? Last week, we performed our third operation using the NEMOST system, a system for minimally invasive bipolar straightening. The construct consists of double thoracic hook-claws from T2 to T6, a distal fixation with iliosacral screws, and two self-expanding rods. As always, when working with a new system, the handling is challenging at first, but the learning curve is steep, and the results for our patients have been good so far.
