Differences in Latin American Spanish - Part 1 Like English, Spanish is spoken in a large number of countries each of which has it's own standard but also it's own slang and colloquialisms- a Panamanian will say buena leche (good milk) for good luck instead of buena suerte, and peleo for child instead of niño. Yet the notion of standards is so strong in Spanish -speaking countries that the goal of education becomes, to some extent, teaching the "right way", or more precisely, the "right ways" to speak: both the national standard and Spanish standard. These variations in Spanish have many roots, including the origin of the speaker, class relations, and contact with native languages. In Argentina, immigration played a large role in shaping the common variety of Spanish spoken by most Argentines. A good example is how they tend to express the future through a circumlocution: they say "voy a ver" (I am going to see) rather than veré (I will see). This is because, for immigrants, it was actually simpler to use the three-word future construction, formed with the verb "to go" and the infinitive of the verb. That way, they only had to learn to conjugate the irregular verb "to go" in the present, which is easy, rather than learning to conjugate Spanish verbs in the future.
