Master German to Advance Your Career | Queen Bee of the Better German Community Hive | Live Sessions, Self-Study Courses & Ongoing Support for Professionals
Did you know that we have a specific day each year dedicated to celebrating the beauty of our mother tongue, cultural diversity and multilingualism? 🎉 The UN chose the 21st February for International Mother Language Day, a day to embrace linguistic diversity and protect endangered languages. According to the UN, every two weeks a language disappears taking with it an entire cultural and intellectual heritage. At least 43% of the estimated 6000 languages spoken in the world are endangered. Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in education systems and the public domain, and less than a hundred are used in the digital world! While German isn't in danger (we're rocking the language charts!), some regional languages like North Frisian need a bit of linguistic TLC.🗺️🤯 How many languages do you speak? Do you speak or are learning a language that you believe is in those 43% of languages that are endangered? I would love to find out how rich the linguistic diversity of all of us here is! source: https://lnkd.in/eKtM8b-B #motherlanguage #german #germanlanguage #germanspeaking #germanteacher

📣 Today we celebrate the International Mother Language Day! 🎉 This day, first proclaimed by UNESCO in November 1999 and subsequently adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, has been observed since 2000 around the world and seeks to highlight the importance of all languages to promote inclusion and learning of all people; the preservation of traditions, cultures and customs and social equity. Some data: 👉🏼 Every two weeks a language disappears and, with it, an entire cultural and intellectual heritage. 👉️ At least 43% of the estimated 6,800 languages spoken in the world are on the path to extinction. 👉🏻 Most internet communications are conducted rather in English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Indonesian, Malay, Japanese, Russian or German. 👉🏾 Multilingual education not only promotes inclusive societies, but also helps preserve non-dominant, minority and indigenous languages. We must take care of all languages, no language is better than another. Tell us in the comments, what is your mother tongue? 🗣️ #InternationalMotherLanguageDay #MotherLanguageDay #translation #mothertongue #motherlanguage #languages #lLSP

LIBELP Official Launching Program Endangered languages are those at risk of disappearing as their speakers shift to using other languages. This loss is often due to globalization, migration, and the dominance of widely spoken languages such as English, French, and Spanish. When a language becomes endangered, it means that fewer people, often only the elderly, are using it, and it is no longer being passed on to younger generations. Liberian languages are considered endangered for several reasons. Many Indigenous languages in Liberia are not being actively taught to children, leading to a decline in fluent speakers. In addition, the influence of English, our official language, and the lack of resources for teaching and preserving our native languages contribute to their endangered status. Thus, we must take steps to revitalize and protect these languages before they disappear entirely. With that in mind, we are excited to announce the official launch of The Liberia Endangered Language Project (LIBELP) on December 7, 2024, under the theme: Revitalizing and Saving Liberia's Endangered Indigenous Languages. We aim to create awareness, save, and revitalize Liberia's endangered Indigenous languages. We believe our rich linguistic heritage is a treasure worth preserving. LIBELP is all about bringing our diverse communities together to create engaging content like videos, audio, and graphics and offer teaching for all 16 Indigenous languages of Liberia. And that’s not all; we intend to partner with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to introduce a bilingual education system. This means students will learn in both their native language and English, helping to keep our languages alive while preparing for a thriving future. Join us in this exciting movement as we celebrate and protect our linguistic heritage. Together, we can ensure that the voices of our ancestors continue to thrive for generations. Keep following us for more updates, and prepare to be a part of something extraordinary. Let’s know your thoughts in the comment section. And as always, we remain committed to saving Liberian languages. Don't forget the date: December 7, 2024 (Saturday). #LIBELP #LanguagePreservation #BilingualEducation #LiberianLanguages #CulturalHeritage #ELP #EndangeredLanguages

The ACTA Consultancy Group on Indigenous English as an Additional Language or Dialect provided feedback on the draft International Decade of Indigenous Languages Priorities Paper (the Priorities Paper) in 2023. In partnership with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages Direction Group (the Directions Group), the authors of the draft Paper incorporated ACTA’s feedback into the revised Paper, specifically regarding the importance of a national approach to stopping First Nations language loss, and greater recognition of bilingual-biliterate learning and non-traditional and emerging First Nations languages. The Paper was endorsed by the Directions Group in March 2024 and provided to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Language Policy Partnership to feed into their language priorities under Target 16 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. 🎉 The first language we learn (our mother tongue) is key to our cognitive, emotional, and social development. It shapes our identity, our ways of thinking, and our understanding of the world around us. Promoting multilingual education in our communities is fundamental to keeping languages and cultural heritage alive. Language service providers play a key role, providing educational resources, and translation and interpretation services that make it easier to access education in different languages. ✨ ✅ Today, on International Mother Language Day, we reaffirm our commitment to linguistic diversity by celebrating mother tongues, and their essential role in social development. 🌎 #MotherLanguageDay #MultilingualEducation #LanguagePreservation #LanguageServices #Translation #BGCommunications

Language is a carrier of ideas. As per the UN report “Every two weeks a language disappears taking with it an entire cultural and intellectual heritage. At least 45% of the estimated 7000 languages spoken in the world are endangered.” On this day of 21 February, 2024 as we celebrate the International Mother Language Day to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism, I ponder upon and witness how the old and young speak English quite often other than the mother tongue, at least in urban cities. Surely there is a growing awareness of inclusivity and diversity and local languages playing a vital role in mobilizing the mass for a campaign or a social media fan following. Efforts are being made to promote education in vernacular languages at block and district level too. Surely there is a need for knowing 21st century learning skills and communication but there is a growing need to preserve our own language and culture. Period! But have you thought how steadily the children and youth is being encapsulated with western influence and loosing grip over their mother tongue? Not undermining the importance of speaking a global language. I ensure that I speak to my child in his mother tongue! Do you? #language #mothertoungue #beholdingconsciousness #education #unesco

PART 1 of 2: Fwd from @pezdicide 🇦🇲🇷🇺🇬🇧 How the Russian language is being removed from schools in Armenia, and what the British Council has to do with it The Rybar and DTM channels discuss the news about a significant reduction in the teaching of the Russian language in Armenian schools. ▪️ If earlier the Russian language in Armenian schools was a compulsory subject for all 12 grades, now it will be studied only for four years. For the rest of the time, it will be relegated to one of the foreign languages to choose from. ▪️ The Russian language will be gradually replaced by English, despite the fundamental ties between Russia and Armenia. ▪️ The Ministry of Education of Armenia facilitates the widespread penetration of the British British Council into the schools of the republic, which organize "English clubs" with language learning and debating. ▪️ Formally, the British Council is engaged in teaching British English, and in this, it would seem, there is nothing special. However, the organization is directly subordinate to the UK Foreign Office and, under the guise of an educational mission, is also engaged in shadow activities and recruitment. ▪️ In the UK government in 2021, they adopted a concept to promote "Global Britain". The British Council was assigned a key role as a "soft power" in shaping a positive perception of the UK in the eyes of youth in different countries. 🔝🔝🔝 part 1/2 Source: https://lnkd.in/ezHSaMFn
