On June 3, 1997, Roberto Carlos stunned the world with one of the most spectacular free kicks in football history during a game between Brazil and France. The ball, seemingly destined to miss the target, swerved dramatically and found the back of the net, leaving everyone in awe. This incredible goal was a perfect demonstration of the Magnus effect, where the spin of the ball created a pressure difference, causing it to curve in an almost magical way. In business, we often face challenges that seem insurmountable, much like the seemingly impossible trajectory of Roberto Carlos's free kick. However, just as the Magnus effect can alter the path of a spinning ball, an innovative mindset can transform obstacles into opportunities. Here are some key takeaways from this iconic moment in sports that we can apply to our personal and business lives: 1.Embrace the Spin. Just as the spin on the ball created a new path, our mindset, unique perspectives and innovative ideas can lead to unexpected and successful outcomes. Don't be afraid to think differently and challenge the status quo. 2. Understand the Forces at Play. Roberto Carlos's goal was not just about power but understanding the physics behind the kick. Similarly, in business, understanding the underlying factors and dynamics can help us navigate challenges more effectively. 3.Stay Persistent. The goal was a result of precise execution and persistence. In our professional journeys, staying committed to our goals, even when the path seems unclear, can lead to remarkable achievements. 4.Collaborate and Innovate. Just as a team supports a player, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within our organisations can drive us towards success. Encourage diverse ideas and perspectives to create a more dynamic and resilient team. Let's take inspiration from Roberto Carlos's legendary free kick and apply the same principles of innovation, persistence, and understanding to overcome our business challenges to create impactful change. www.terrypaule.com Watch the video below to see the spectacular free kick! #Innovation #Mindset #Wegrowwater #BusinessSuccess #Myco #RobertoCarlos #Terrypaule #MagnusEffect #Leadership #Teamwork #Inspiration
ELi5 on Instagram: "In 1997, during a match between Brazil and France, Roberto Carlos demonstrated the Magnus effect spectacularly with his free kick. As he struck the ball, he applied a tremendous amount of spin to it, causing it to rotate rapidly as it moved through the air. This rapid rotation created differences in air pressure around the ball. On one side of the ball, the air was moving again

Game on! #Netherlands vs #Turkey for a spot in the semifinals. Using SICS.sport data, I ranked the #Euro2024 teams across several categories. The Netherlands excels at getting the ball inside the box and creating scoring opportunities, but they struggle with shooting accuracy, ranking only 22nd in shot on target percentage. On the other hand, Turkey might not be as creative, but their efficiency is remarkable. They rank 1st in the difference between goals scored and expected goals (xGoals). Overall Team Rankings: • Netherlands: 5 • Turkey: 10 Check out the graphs for more insights! 📊 Sports Data Campus #TheEuroOfData #DKAnalytics #FootballAnalytics

Imagine you have two events, A and B, occurring in a vast universe of possibilities. In this universe, the occurrence of A doesn't sway the likelihood of B happening and vice versa. This lack of influence defines the independence between these events. Thus, in the dance of probabilities, A and B move to their own rhythms, untouched by the steps of the other. This harmony is the essence of independent events, creating a symphony of certainty in the realm of chance.Consider the Semi-Finals of Euro 2024: if France wins the 1st Semifinal, it doesn’t mean the Netherlands will win the 2nd Semifinal, nor does Spain’s win in the 1st Semifinal imply England will win the 2nd Semifinal. Two semifinals are independent if the outcome of one doesn’t affect the outcome of the other.More precisely, if there are two candidates in an election, and if Q loses, then P must win, and if Q wins, then P is considered lost. This scenario is not an example of independent probability. In essence, true independence means each event unfolds its own story, unaffected by the tale of the other, weaving a tapestry of probability that is both intricate and beautifully unpredictable.

Arsenal earned all three points in Sunday’s North London Derby to keep themselves top of the Premier League table. Kai Havertz produced a top performance, scoring one and assisting one for the Gunners. 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝗽! ✈️ I'll be traveling to Uvalde, Texas, to support Werner Rüegger as he represents the Swiss 🇨🇭 National team in the 38th FAI World Gliding Championship. It's an honor to see all the hard work, data, and preparation come together on the global stage by him and his crew. In the lead-up to the event, I had the privilege of working on data analysis for the gliding team. 📊 The insights we gathered can help for strategic planning and performance optimization, although the pilots are still the most important part 😀 . If you're interested in the data-driven approach we took, check out my findings, which I've published as a PDF (attached) and on Medium. Two key insights emerged from our analysis: • 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲: Our clustering analysis revealed that taking off around 1:30 PM consistently results in higher flight points. This insight could be a game-changer for strategic planning during the competition. • 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: The linear regression model showed that focusing on specific regions, such as Uvalde, significantly improves the accuracy of performance predictions. This targeted approach can help optimize flight strategies for better outcomes. Can't wait to witness my first gliding competition and support our team and others as they aim for top-point flights!
