Let's talk special educational needs... To access education we first need to understand the barriers to learning our children and young people face. We need accurate identification of need to know how best to support, remove barriers and help our students thrive. This morning I was fortunate to work 1:1 with a young person who said, "I just want to be a good reader." Her obstacle to reading was not her phonological knowledge for reading fluency and it was not her ability to comprehend verbally however more a specific Literacy need along with a receptive language need. This young person had got through most of their educational journey through masking and copying peers. She is not making progress in learning as the language is not aimed at her level of understanding and the concepts are not taught for the way that her brain typically interprets information to retain information. #knowledgeispower #removingbarriers #accurateidentification #SEND #specialeducation #specialeducationalneeds #teachingandlearning #learningassessments #identifyingSEND #removingbarrierstolearning #education #educationalleadership #accurateidentificationofSEND

What is Education? No, it is not knowing how to talk and write in "English". Most people have a misconception that a person not communicating in English is not educated and is not eligible to sit for an interview or crack an exam. Let me tell you what education really is: 1. To know how to take care of your body in education, 2. To know and accept the importance of mental health is education. 3. To have a first-aid kit and be prepared for small accidents is education. 4. To know basic rights is education. 5. To be able to understand that sometimes keeping quiet is imperative. 6. To be able to draw a line between straight-forwardness and rudeness. 7. To be able to have faith, confidence, and discipline is education. 8. To act your age is education. 9. To know your inner strength and work on it is education. 10. To understand Karma is education. 11. To not litter around and keep your neighbourhood clean is education. I can go on and on, but what I am trying to convey here is that none of the above is any way related to knowing English. English is just a language. So, let's just be more educated in the way we judge others so fast just on the basis of their English speaking skills. #motivation #education #mentalhealth #positive #positivity #corporatelife #acceptance #love #confidence #innovation

One of the problems with English education is that it focuses on child development up to the age of 5, and then swaps over to narrow conceptualisations of learning, characterised by the use of formal tests and exams. One of the things I like about the concept of bildung is its continued focus on human development as central to education throughout the life course, creating a more holistic approach to human thriving and fulfilment.
