Key Points about Cervical Cancer: 1. Screening and Prevention: • Pap smear: Regular Pap tests help detect precancerous changes in cervical cells before they develop into cancer. • HPV test: Screening for high-risk HPV types can also help detect risk early. • HPV Vaccine: Vaccines, such as Gardasil and Cervarix, protect against the most common cancer-causing types of HPV and are recommended for preteens and young adults. 2. Symptoms: • Early stages of cervical cancer usually don’t present noticeable symptoms, which is why regular screening is essential. • Symptoms in more advanced stages may include unusual vaginal bleeding, pain during intercourse, or pelvic pain. 3. Risk Factors: • HPV infection is the primary risk factor, but other factors include smoking, having a weakened immune system, long-term use of oral contraceptives, and having multiple full-term pregnancies. 4. Treatment: • Treatment varies depending on the stage of cancer and can include surgery (e.g., removal of cancerous tissue or the cervix), radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. 5. Prognosis: • When caught early, cervical cancer is highly treatable and has a good prognosis. Early detection through regular screening significantly improves the chances of successful treatment. Regular screenings, vaccinations, and safe practices are key preventive measures for reducing the risk of cervical cancer.

World Health Organization 💡 Linking Breast & Cervical Cancer Screenings Preventive healthcare is most effective when it’s accessible, streamlined, and patient-centered. One strategy is linking breast and cervical cancer screenings—a win-win for healthcare systems and, most importantly, for patients. Why does this approach make sense? 1️⃣Shared Demographics: Women eligible for breast cancer screening are often also due for cervical screening 2️⃣Enhanced Access: Offering both screenings in one visit reduces the need for multiple appointments… 3️⃣Joint programs have been shown to boost participation rates, ensuring more women benefit from early detection of two of the most critical cancers. 4️⃣Cost Efficiency: Streamlined processes save resources for both patients and healthcare providers. This integrated approach optimizes clinical workflows but empowers women 💃to take charge of their health with fewer hurdles. 🥅The goal is clear: fewer missed opportunities for early diagnosis, better outcomes, and healthier communities. #HealthcareInnovation #PreventiveCare #CancerScreening #PublicHealth

HPV-related diseases and cancers, such as cervical and oropharyngeal cancer, are preventable through vaccination. However, fewer than 20% of Canadian adults are immunized. Four years ago, Canada answered the World Health Organization's call to eliminate cervical cancer, setting a national target to vaccinate 90% of 17-year-olds by 2025. Today, Canada sits far away from reaching this goal. If we do not act now to improve immunization across the country, thousands of Canadians will remain at risk of developing HPV-related cancer in their lifetime, which could have been prevented. Key contributing factors include limited public awareness about the importance of early detection and vaccination, as well as barriers in accessing health services. HPV, the primary cause of cervical cancer, is preventable through vaccines. Indonesia has recently implemented a nationwide HPV vaccination program for young girls, aiming to protect future generations and reduce the overall incidence of cervical cancer. However, challenges in reaching remote populations and addressing vaccine hesitancy remain With the WHO’s global strategy targeting cervical cancer elimination, Indonesia has taken significant steps to align with these goals, focusing on increased HPV vaccination and improved screening initiatives. By scaling these efforts, Indonesia aims to curb cervical cancer rates and provide timely treatment to reduce mortality rates in the long run
