For music therapists, music is a means - not an end. While it may look as if Laura, one of our music therapists, is teaching piano to Willie in this photo, that's not the point. What she's actually doing is increasing his frequency of on-task behavior, improving his ability to follow directions, and lengthening his attention span. Willie just happens to respond positively to music (and to Laura). That's how the therapeutic relationship is forged. That's why music therapy works! #musictherapy #musictherapyeducation #musictherapyadvocacy

How can we keep the joy of music as students transition from elementary school singing/music-making to secondary music ensembles? What do you think? These are some of the thoughts I am grappling with: This generation is different, and that is OK. Treating them the same is foolish. We do not need to throw away old methods which are proven to produce results. We need to transition students from the joy of singing a diverse repertoire of songs to the challenge of notation with the steps that are necessary to bring success to every student. https://lnkd.in/dKprWmCa
