On behalf of our entire team at Mentor Connect, I wanted to express our gratitude to Bobby Hulme-Lippert for speaking on our behalf at the Leadership Conference, City of Austin on June 21st, 2024. Your presentation, “Bring Your Dance Moves: How Leaders Cultivate Belonging,” was profoundly impactful. Your explanation of how everyone has unique and important gifts to offer, and how these gifts are best shared when we feel a sense of belonging, resonated deeply with us. We were particularly inspired by your explanation on how leaders can cultivate belonging: 1. Use Improv Comedy’s “Yes, and” as a Leadership Approach – Building from the input, perspective, and strengths of others. 2. Share Stories – Providing outlets for team members to appreciate each other’s stories, even short conversational prompts can quickly build a deeper connection. 3. Practice Gratitude – Offering team members specific, personalized expressions of gratitude and recognition for their work. These approaches are especially beneficial for high school students as we navigate formative years, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that enhances our personal and academic growth. Lalayag na sila! ⛵ The Juan-To-Serve (JTS) program is an annual leadership workshop designed to empower the next generation of GBF scholar-leaders through hands-on experiences and personal development. Last November, 58 GBF college scholars participated in an exercise to deepen their understanding of social issues and discuss their role as servant leaders. The JTS scholars visited various LGUs and NGOs , as well as community-based groups to learn and engage with them. After the immersion, they spent time with industry leaders including young scientists, innovators, educators, and content creators: Jam Caraan, JM Miralles, Joseph Palattao, and Bea Suavengco. Aside from giving financial assistance, GBF provides its scholars with access to opportunities for leadership and personal development, upskilling and career preparation, industry immersion and internship, knowledge sharing, and gainful employment. As public media leaders navigate how to best foster diversity and equity in their workplaces while making content inclusive for a wide array of audiences, Riley Institute at Furman University, in partnership with SCETV and NETA, provides them with tools and perspectives that they can apply in their efforts through the Public Media Diversity Leaders Initiative (PMDLI). Yesterday, 19 media professionals from across the country graduated as part of the 8th cohort of PMDLI. 🎓 In this five-month program, participants took part in a highly interactive curriculum comprising scenario analyses and other experiential learning tools that support public media leaders in their efforts to apply DEI principles to behaviors, systems, and cultures within their organizations. Congratulations to all the graduating fellows! 🎉

I’m launching the California Community College Consulting Mentorship Program, an initiative to help students at California community colleges create and lead consulting clubs. This program builds on the Core Consulting Group’s (CCG) existing presence at UC Berkeley, USC, Pasadena City College, and American River College. It provides participating students access to resources, strategies, and collaboration opportunities through this growing network of consulting clubs. I will mentor one student per college, who will lead their consulting club as President. Each student will go through a selection process to identify those best suited for the role. Together, we will: • Create consulting clubs tailored to the needs of their campus community. • Develop leadership skills through targeted mentorship. • Run consulting projects that benefit their campus and local organizations. • Build a statewide network of consulting groups for collaboration and knowledge-sharing. This program is for students interested in creating meaningful opportunities for their campus, local businesses, and their broader communities. Retention of young professionals is a critical issue in West Virginia. When early-career individuals see a clear path for personal and professional growth within the state, they are far more likely to plant roots here. Professional development serves as both a motivator and a retention tool by demonstrating that the state values its young workforce and is invested in their success. Providing growth opportunities is a prime way to keep employees of this generation involved, as well as incentivize them to stay within the same company. How to set yourself up for success as a college student ⬇ 1. Join a club on campus that gives you exposure to alumni and opportunities to hear from professionals in different industries 🔷 Examples: -Entrepreneurship club -Real Estate club -Public Speaking club 2. Spend time learning from your professors outside of class (office hours) 🔷 Examples: -Learn about their career journey -Identify how this information is used in the real world -Explore career paths and opportunities with them 3. Take on a leadership role 🔷 Examples: -Attend on campus events (there is always something going on...read the flyers) -Start a club on campus or lead a current one -Become an on campus mentor, teaching assistant, or tutor

This week, the Aldine Young Womens Leadership Academy (YWLA) hosted over 15 Texas superintendents in collaboration with Texas Strategic Leadership. Principal Jericah Jackson shared how her team employs High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and Research-Based Instructional Strategies (RBIS) to drive student success at YWLA. Following Dr. Jackson's presentation, YWLA Student Ambassadors led campus tours and classroom visits, allowing guests to observe YWLA’s instructional strategies and student engagement in action. These tours showcased how a focus on academic excellence, leadership development, and college readiness comes to life daily on our campus. YWLA demonstrates how dedicated educators and students can work together to ensure a transformative academic experience that equips young women for future success in college and beyond. YWLA is proud to serve as a shining example of the great things happening in Aldine ISD and at Young Women's Preparatory Network schools.

SkillsUSA Helps Tulsa Tech Grad Chart Path to Success Opportunity. Iconic American author F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, "Our lives are defined by opportunities. Even the ones we miss.” For Tulsa Tech graduate Mackenzie Oestereich, one opportunity made all the difference. SkillsUSA a CareerTech Student Organization (CTSO), shaped her path.
