I went to Cirque du Soleil - Kooza last week - excited for a night of mind-blowing acrobatics. And...well, let's just say I ended up getting more involved than I bargained for. One minute I'm enjoying the show, the next I'm being strong-armed onto the stage by a mime with a mischievous grin. Turns out, they needed an audience volunteer, and apparently, I fit the "slightly terrified, vaguely coordinated volunteer" role they were looking for. Now, I'm not gonna lie, my palms were sweatier than a trapeze artist's grip. But hey, when life throws you lemons and slightly-unrealistic expectations from a troupe of international performers, you gotta make lemonade (or, in this case, try not to trip over your own feet). The best part? After the show, 90% of the audience literally thought I was an off-duty clown planted in the audience. Apparently, my complete lack of composure and questionable improv skills blended seamlessly with the professional performers. Here's what I learned:  * Embrace the awkward: Discomfort is relatable, and people love a good laugh (at your expense, or with you, it's all good).  * Play for the team: Even if you're just a last-minute addition, supporting the performers and setting them (and yourself) up for success is key.  * Don't take yourself too seriously: Sometimes, the best way to get through a chaotic situation is to loosen up and enjoy the ride. So, the next time you find yourself in an unexpected situation, take a deep breath, and channel your inner clown!

How brands can compete in 2024 and beyond In 1984 the circus industry was in sharp decline Circus shows were offering the exact same experience to everybody, everywhere. They were sailing in a sea of sameness. In 1984 Cirque du Soleil was founded by two street performers. They transformed the circus show into theatre and targeted a new audience. Their theatrical, character-driven approach and the absence of performing animals helped define Cirque du Soleil as the contemporary circus ("nouveau cirque") that it remains today. They achieved this by moving from the bloody and treacherous red ocean to the calmness of a blue ocean. Introducing! The concept of red and blue oceans. 1. Red Ocean: This represents existing market spaces filled with competition. The "red" symbolizes the fierce competition among companies, often leading to a bloody battle for market share. In a red ocean, businesses compete within the same industry, using similar strategies to gain an edge over each other. 2. Blue Ocean: This signifies untapped market space or industries where there is little to no competition. Creating a blue ocean involves innovation and the development of new market segments. Companies in a blue ocean seek to create and capture new demand, making competition irrelevant. Now, using Cirque du Soleil as an example: Cirque du Soleil moved from the red ocean of traditional circuses, characterized by fierce competition and a shrinking market, to the blue ocean of live entertainment. Instead of competing directly with other circuses, Cirque du Soleil created a unique market space by combining elements of circus arts with theatre and dance. This innovative approach attracted a new audience that was not traditionally interested in circuses. By doing so, Cirque du Soleil eliminated direct competition and created a blue ocean of uncontested market space, allowing the company to thrive and redefine the live entertainment industry. Eventually, all blue oceans become red. Where is your blue ocean?

I will also create a seperate video full of boat and water cinematography. The ride on the yacht to the event was so visually tantalizing. It will be branded as a relaxing sounds, sight seeing, stock footage type of video. Any person will love to watch the views, no matter the age or country of residence. Its not easy capturing engaging shots on a cruise with constant and strong turbulence. That is why I am continually more proud of my skillset and these special eyes. I didn’t shoot in C-Log but I did have a fun time color grading. And it is not easy balancing enjoying the experience while not slacking on camera man duties. Most creative people are circus elephants. To keep circus elephants from running away, they tie a metal chain to a collar around the elephant’s leg – and tie that chain to a small wooden peg hammered into the ground. The elephant could easily pull that peg from the ground. But it doesn't. Because when the elephant was a baby its trainers used precisely the same methods. The only difference is that, as a baby, the elephant was not strong enough to pull the peg. Tempted by the world around it, the baby elephant would pull the chain, causing it to cut into its skin. Eventually, it just stopped trying, even years later. As long as that elephant thinks it can’t escape, it won’t. It's the same with creative people. Except that these pegs are self-limiting beliefs. Sometimes, it’s a childhood experience or an early failure. Sometimes, it’s something we were told when we were younger. Whatever they are, they are holding you back from achieving great things. Astonishing things. I know because I used to be a circus elephant too. One day, I accidentally uprooted one of the pegs and suddenly realized that I was big enough to break free. This didn't just make me more successful; it also made me more creative. And, if you ask me, it's one of the secrets to my creativity. Since then, I've been able to do some astonishing things. It's one of the reasons I started posting on LinkedIn. For years, I've tried to figure out how to help creatives do the same, but I've never been able to explain it or create a system that works. This is why I was both surprised and delighted to find this as the first topic in week one of Jason Bagley's School of Audacious and Astonishing Pursuits Creative Megamachine course (the best school to learn how to be more creative if you ask me). I was surprised because Jason is one of the most creative creative directors on the planet. To hear that he, too, was once a circus elephant tied to a peg blew my mind. But I was delighted because he also dedicates the entire first class to this topic, and gives you a process to help you actually break the chains holding your creative potential back I know this because after taking the class, I found some pegs I wasn't aware of myself. The results were felt immediately. As a creative person, you have an incredible power inside of you. You have it in you to take on most of the things holding you back.
