Incrementality Tests Explained Who really is responsible for your conversions? There are lots of channels taking credit but you never know until you test. Are you spending your precious ad dollars in placements that actually move the needle? Or burning through spend on channels that are taking credit for someone else’s reach? Incremental tests remove the bias and act as the medicine you need to keep your marketing efforts healthy.

The most overlooked metric in marketing in my opinion is 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿. Revenue per visitor is the best way to measure efficacy of tests that impact not only Conversion Rate, but Average Order Value. Too many marketers look at each these metrics in a silo! Example: when we make new landing pages for clients, we typically test a completely new bundle or offer that is meant to optimize for revenue per visitor. This requires finding the balance between a high enough AOV to maximize your contribution margin, with a compelling enough discount to keep Conversion Rate high. If we were only looking at Conversion Rate to evaluate the success of this A/B test, we'd likely pause it fairly soon. However, because the variant is driving a 51% higher AOV, overall revenue per visitor is a whopping 50% higher.

There are a myriad of ways to miss the mark in emal marketing. But the WORST of all, in my opinion, is to set your KPI’s incorrectly. Poorly developed KPI’s set the stage for both parties to be frustrated. Here’s a few to get you thinking: Quality of Leads Generated > Quantity of Leads Bounce Rate & Session Duration > Page Views Click-Through Rates > Open Rates & Impressions

Before higher conversion rates comes credibility. A great way to improve it is by benchmarking testimonial tools. Avoid reviewing only your competition or other players in your industry. Consider testimonial tools as well, like Senja, Testimonial or Testimonial Hero. See how they are showcasing their own credibility. Analyze how their products help their own users. You don't need thousands of reviews or even a wall of love at first. Just a handful of testimonials, that are not only real but credible and well shown. Why am I sharing a chart that is not going up and to the right? Negative signals are as important as positive ones. In the graph below, we've been consistently *reducing* the numbers of DQ'd (unqualified) leads coming in. This itself is a lagging indicator of better marketing.
