Security Recruiter & Founder @ Cyber Spring | Connecting CISOs & Consultancies with the best Security & GRC Talent
I’ve worked with a number of companies in various industries looking to hire their first security employee. Most have an idea of what skillset they are looking for with that hire - whether it be detection & response, DevSecOps etc - and the short term objectives the hire will help them achieve. Usually this means hiring an Engineer to embed into existing teams. Many don’t think long term though. Should these companies be hiring someone to build and lead the team from scratch rather than hire a security leader at a later date? By doing this - the individual is able to develop and implement a longer term strategy and hire for their team as necessary to achieve those goals - rather than taking over an existing team and having to change their ways of working having got used to a different line manager. I don’t think there is a one size fits all solution - but companies definitely need to think about their longer term objectives when hiring.
