Expert Psychotherapist specializing in family cultures, organizational cultures, & our consumer culture.
It’s the 1940s, and we find twenty small communities, mostly in the eastern parts of the United States, each building their own culture founded on values of pacifism, simple living, and equality. At this same time, an organization forms in the wake of World War II with the smaller mission of networking these groups together so they can assist one another, and with the grander hope of eradicating war altogether by promoting peaceful, cooperative communities. Initially named the Inter-Community Exchange, they later rebrand under the title Fellowship of Intentional Communities (FIC). In the twenty five years that follow, there’s an explosion in the number of groups who gather together to build a new way of life. Many of these groups are inspired to act by the counter culture movement of the 1960s, a movement where large numbers of Americans speak out against the marketplace and the isolation and destruction it brings with it. As cultural experimentation takes root in the American landscape, groups form and live together in many places, ranging from The Farm in Tennessee to Strawberry Fields in Southern California. But, like their predecessors a century ago, many of these groups and the cultures they build also fall. This time, many collapse under financial stresses and a lack of organization. (Stay tuned next week to find out how small communities eventually begin to thrive in the US) #ShareYourThoughts #Todayspost #culture #consumer #americans #UnitedStates #marketplace #community

Embracing the hard work it will take... Today, as we observe our nation's first 'Patriot's Day', we take a moment to remember the tragic events of September 11th 2001. These events aimed to crush our spirit, instead they ignited a profound unity and resilience within our nation that was not anticipated - changing the course of world history forever. Let's honor the lives so unnecessarily lost and the likely and unlikely heroes of that day who emerged in the face of adversity. Because of them, and so many before them, we have an opportunity to stand together - stronger and more unified. As we reflect on our past, may we also embrace the hard work it will take to craft a brighter and more unified future - for all people, everywhere. Leaders, let's consider this: What is one small way you can encourage and foster a space of unity, respect for differences, and resilience in the face of adversity within your sphere of influence this week? #CheeringYouForward, Steve C.

2x Founder & superconnector. Equipping the startup ecosystem to transform curiosity into capital and inquisitiveness into innovation. Venture scout. ESG, Web3 & AI enthusiast, NYC & GenZ co-chair @Foundersfor Kamala
Tomorrow, I am honored to be one of the 16 founders representing Founders for Kamala at an event where we'll come together to discuss politics and the future of our democracy, our communities, and our country. As a founder, I've learned that the most meaningful innovation doesn't happen in isolation. It happens when we invite diverse voices to the table and create something together. Tomorrow's event is a chance to build, an opportunity to unite. Together with other founders and organizing groups, we're joining a conversation with #OprahWinfrey and #KamalaHarris for one common goal: to preserve democracy and ensure that every voice, perspective, and experience is heard. We may have different lived experiences, political affiliations, and cultural backgrounds. Still, we all want the same thing: a country where we belong, where freedom and opportunity are not just promises. I'm proud to be part of a movement focused on building that future, one where we don't just talk about change; we take action and #dosomething. One where we listen to each other, find common ground, and move forward. Democracy is not just handed to us; it is something we nurture and protect. Here's my ask: Will you join tomorrow's conversation? We are joining the #UniteforAmerica livestream on Sept 19th at 8 PM ET with an incredible community of changemakers! Join us for a night of action, hope, and unity as we work toward progress together. Be part of this powerful movement by registering here: UniteForAmerica2024.com It's a conversation we all need to be part of. #founders #leadership #futureofdemocracy #winwithblackwomen #foundersforkamala #uniteforamerica #preservedemocracy #voicesforchange

**Our Responsibility to the Next Generation: A Civic Duty** The children growing up behind us represent the future of our country. As American citizens, it’s our responsibility to pass down the knowledge and values we’ve gained to help guide them. The experiences we’ve collected, the lessons we’ve learned, and the wisdom we hold are invaluable resources that can shape their future. Our civic duty goes beyond individual success. It’s about preparing the next generation to carry on the ideals of hard work, resilience, and the freedoms granted by the Constitution of the United States of America. By sharing our knowledge, we’re ensuring that they are equipped to navigate the challenges ahead, while also upholding the values that make this country strong. However, sometimes we must break the status quo and innovate on our own. We cannot always rely on our governments or fellow countrymen to do it for us. There are moments when a leader must step up—not because they were chosen, but because they realize that if they don’t, no one else might. It’s in these moments of leadership that true change happens, and the path for the next generation is forged. Together, as countrymen, let’s commit to being mentors and innovators for the children who will one day lead us. The future depends on what we pass down today and the bold steps we take to create it.

Today, we celebrate a momentous milestone—78 years of independence. This day is not just about looking back at our history but also about honoring the journey that has shaped our nation into what it is today. It’s a powerful reminder of the bravery, sacrifice, and vision that laid the foundation for the freedoms we enjoy. As we commemorate this day, let’s take a moment to acknowledge the ongoing contributions of individuals and organizations that drive our country’s growth and development. Each of us has a role to play in this collective journey, guided by the same spirit of innovation, resilience, and dedication that characterized our past. In our professional and personal lives, let's embrace and reflect the core values of freedom and opportunity. It is our shared responsibility to cultivate workplaces and communities that champion growth, foster diversity, and promote inclusivity. Our actions today shape the future we will inherit tomorrow. May we continue to be inspired by the values that have brought us this far and be motivated to contribute to a brighter, more inclusive future.
