Dynamic pricing?
The media are getting into a spiral twist about oasis tickets prices. Primarily as always, using it as a click bait.
However the issue is very much wider and not being discussed. Car parking, rail travel, flights, hotels, Uber, holidays, utilities, mobile data, televised sport, seasonal clothing, sports event tickets, dining out and fast food.
All have dynamic options.
Petrol & Diesel almost £2 a gallon higher or lower within less than half a mile of an outlet of the same brand. Ever tried buying a lawn mower in the autumn, or perhaps some Christmas Cards in January?
Booking a hotel in Edinburgh during the festival?
Free first class rail travel on a weekend, when it’s 7 or 8 times the price yesterday and tomorrow, for the same seat on the same train on the same route?
With the introduction of digital signage and ordering, some of our best known high street quick service food & drink outlets now also widely use dynamic pricing.
Where there is no competitive option, such as a utility company (think Thames Water!), a transport provider, or perhaps a motorway services. We really must have a process to protect the consumer from excessive over inflated pricing. However if you have an open freedom of choice to eat, drink, holiday, experience or leisure purchase a non essential.
Is it fair play?
Is it too expensive if it immediately or directly sells out?
