Key Account Management 101 Over the past 14 years, I have been recruiting Account Managers at all levels into the martech and digital media industries. Without listing all the important skills, here are three that are super important if you are a dedicated AM managing higher-tier customers. 1: The 2:1 Listening to Speaking Ratio → Spend twice as much time listening. → identifying opportunities and threats is critical. → Shape communication & strategies effectively. → Clients will warm up quickly and give respect. This simple technique allows you to build a deeper understanding of your client's needs and respond more effectively. 2: Proactive Communication → Proactively understand and update clients. → Initiate contact, don't wait. → Proactively engage, solve, and preempt issues. → Handle big clients: give frequent updates. → Use diverse channels for effective messaging. This simple technique allows you to build trust with your clients and show your value as a strategic partner. 3: 24/7 Client Service mindset → Always respond to clients' inbox queries. → Set up systems for after-hours responses. → Use Zapier or Make for automation. → If successful, involve team in service quality. This simple technique allows you to give a superior customer experience, increases client satisfaction, and drives client loyalty. Implement these three things, and you'll be a successful account manager in the tech industry. Remember, in this role, it's all about being operational, proactive, and available. Are there any additional techniques other Account Managers find useful? #digitalmarketing #DigitalMarketing #Advertisingandmarketing #careers #hiring
