Hot Off the Press: Business Associations Climate Action Guide! As more companies commit to achieving #net zero they are increasingly asking more of the membership associations that they are a part of. The Business Associations Climate Action Guide is designed to empower companies to take concrete actions to assess and align their business association memberships. Although, the guide has been designed for businesses it is a MUST READ for membership associations. The guide offers valuable insights on what businesses need and what actions membership organisations can take to align with and support their members transition. It’s crucial that membership organisations advocate on behalf of and put positive climate policies and guidance in place to support the transition of the industry/sector that they represent. Embracing a robust internal and member facing climate and sustainability strategy goes beyond compliance for your membership organisation — it's about demonstrating leadership and integrity. CAFA contributed to the Business Associations Climate Action Guide alongside prominent organisations including the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, #RaceToZero of High-Level Climate Champions, UN Global Compact Network UK, We Mean Business Coalition, InfluenceMap and the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development Read the Business Associations Climate Action Guide in full here - https://lnkd.in/ewCvf8e2 Learn more about Climate Action for Associations (CAFA), the net zero and sustainability support we provide the membership sector and how your membership organisation can lead positive change here - https://lnkd.in/ezws_iX #ClimateAction #NetZero #Sustainability #Associations #MembershipOrganisations #ClimateLeadership #ClimatePolicy Alison Heppenstall, Nigar Arpadarai, Paul Polman, Jennie Dodson, Johan Falk, Dominic Gogol, Steve Kenzie, Tessa Vincent

How can a business that fully supports intersectional action on climate change and nature loss, be wary about nature-based climate solutions (NbCS)? The answer is that we are increasingly seeing a move towards companies choosing NbCS over good old fashioned decarbonisation action e.g. reducing the amount of fossil fuel that a company relies on through its value chain (Scope 1 - 3). 🛢 It's important to keep NbCS in perspective. Whilst they have absolutely have a role to play, they are not a substitute for decarbonisation, especially as we're destroying natural carbon sinks at a much greater rate than we're restoring. Nature-positive action is equally important as climate action; however, what we want is EFFECTIVE action to tackle both crises, not a muddy middle that greenwashes business as usual. 🏢 If you'd like to learn more, here is a link to our blog on the subject: https://lnkd.in/dEbNVVut

With that, we’re not just fighting climate change—we’re unlocking new opportunities for innovation, jobs, and a sustainable future. ACTION is the only choice we have ! Take the risk to SUCCEED ! With so many financial challenges and distractions within the current corporate environment, it is too often the case that companies can not afford or focus on any substantial environmental issues. The complexities of trying to set achievable targets make it more challenging to gain engagement at the board level. However, there are so many innovative and credible programs and partnerships that companies can work with, but they just don't know where to start.
Less than a third (27%) of businesses who have set net-zero targets are on track to reach net-zero by 2050 or sooner 🤔 This is just one of the many insights from our annual Climate Commitments Survey, for which we surveyed 1,400 business owners and decision-makers to understand the challenges, opportunities, and barriers they face in their journey towards net-zero. We found that more and more businesses are starting their journey to net-zero, with 72% of those surveyed having measured their carbon footprint over the past few years - but the majority are not on course to hit their targets. A really valuable tool highlighted by Local Enterprise Office Laois ! 🌿 The Government Climate Toolkit is an excellent resource that we use when working with SMEs to develop and measure their green strategy. They can also use it on an ongoing basis to assess and track progress. It provides SMEs with a roadmap for their sustainability journey even if they lack the resources for a full sustainability team. At Iregan Advisors, we help companies assess their current practices using the UN SDGs as a framework, develop a comprehensive strategy and operational plan to become more sustainable, and craft their marketing and communications around sustainability to build trust and drive sales. 👉 Learn more about the LEO Green for Business Supports: https://lnkd.in/eTUqZj9Z 👉 Check out the Climate Toolkit here: https://bit.ly/3KAp5y7 👉 Learn more about how we work with SMEs: Iregan Advisors #Sustainability #GreenBusiness #ClimateAction #BusinessGrowth #SMEsupport #IreganAdvisors #LEO

Addressing climate change in today's world requires a multifaceted approach, involving both individual actions and systemic change. On an individual level, small changes like reducing energy consumption, adopting sustainable transportation methods, and minimizing waste can make a significant impact when multiplied across communities. Additionally, advocating for policy changes and supporting businesses that prioritize sustainability can drive systemic change. Grassroots movements, activism, and public awareness campaigns play crucial roles in pressuring governments and corporations to take meaningful action. Collaboration between governments, businesses, and civil society is essential for implementing large-scale solutions, such as transitioning to renewable energy sources, investing in green infrastructure, and implementing carbon pricing mechanisms. Ultimately, addressing climate change requires a collective effort involving diverse stakeholders to mitigate its impacts and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
