(🎧 encouraged) (Read below) Tech Tip Tuesday: Towel Hi-Hat Dampener. (Inside) . . . When I experimented with this concept on top of these hi-hats, so many of you insisted on using the towel inside of the hi-hat pair. As someone curious about sounds and dampening techniques, I had to give this a try. Dampening your cymbals, more specifically your hi-hat pair can make an imitate change to your sound because your hi-hat pair is a part of the chore three instruments. (Kick, snare, and hi-hats.) A way to do this is by using a thin dampening towel and placing it on the inside of your hi-hat pair. For this reason, I used a dampening towel from Drum Supply. To easily slide it over the hi-hat rod, I cut a small hole in the center of the towel. The results of this dampening hack surprised me a little because even though there was dampening, the hi-hat pair still had a lot of articulation and body to it while still delivering a dry and articulate sound. This dampening hack was a fun experiment to try out. Hacks like this remind us how many endless possibilities there are when you are willing to step out of your sonic comfort zone.
