She doesn't do it intentionally, but she's good at reminding me when I've neglected her. It's rare that I have a moment to sit with her, not distracted by the boys and the noise, to give her some love and attention. And because I, like many out there, love our pets, there's no doubt we want to give them the best food (and snacks) to eat. In our case, ingredients and where the products are made is so important to us. Being Canadian, we try to opt for locally produced whenever possible. So no surprise that (according to Fortune Business Insights™), the global pet food market is projected to grow from USD 115.50 billion in 2022 to USD 163.70 billion by 2029! As I continue to work with Yves Caradec and our MADHUB INC team, I'm taking a really intentional approach to understanding the types of brands we want to partner with. And honestly, pet food brands that are challenging the status quo and not sacrificing quality are ones we'd like to work with. Findings suggest that there are similarities across cultures, but also some regional specificity in terms of product-related emotional experience. Pet owners from the different regions exhibited different emotional approach towards the odor of dry food, and did not use the same emotions to describe their emotional experience. The substantial growth in the pet food market provides a good opportunity for research in the cross-cultural area. In the same time, the ‘humanization’ trend generates a growing interest of the pet food companies for sensory and consumer science. Pet food companies are now using product differentiation based on various sensory attributes, such as smell, appearance, and texture; and thereby answering the hyper segmentation trend in the pet food market. Pet food products do not only respond to pets’ specific needs (depending on their age, breed…), but also target different categories of pet owners, matching their expectations towards products’ sensory attributes. In this context, there is an increasing need for consumer studies to be conducted across the different markets Successful understanding of cross-cultural differences between pet owners could provide valuable insights to international companies aiming to launch new pet food products following this trend. Apart from culture, genetic and environmental factors such as age, sex and personality could affect emotional experience related to the odor of dry pet food. The effect of owners’ segmentation on product-related emotional experience will be the subject of further investigation. #petfood #dogfood #catfood #plasticpackaging
