Dog tip No 3 All dogs can be aggressive. I have three well-trained dogs with breeds that are considered family friendly - labradors and a springer spaniel. But I have seen them all be aggressive depending on the provocation. For example, one of my dogs does not like other wild animals in his garden and has killed a fox and a heron who he regarded as intruders. I didn't teach him to do this. Dogs can be made more or less aggressive by their owner's training. But, dogs are wild animals and, regardless of breed, they can be aggressive and bite. One solution may be to ban certain dogs, or neuter them, but I am certain you can get aggressive labradors, just as you can loving so-called dangerous breeds. My solution is to keep my dogs on a lead and have great recall, so that they do not attack and can't attack other people or animals. I let my dogs off the lead singly (not as a pack) and when no other dogs are around. I walk them very early reducing the chance of seeing other dogs. I meet people who have dogs wandering around out of control and I warn them that if they approach my dogs they may bite. Most owners then leash their dogs. I abhor owners that say: "He/she's harmless and wouldn't hurt a fly" or similar. They have no guaranteed way of knowing how their dog will react. I always walk my dogs with a very hefty litter picker which I have found is also a good weapon if other dogs start to get aggressive. I do my best to be a responsible dog owner, but I still regards my dogs as dogs (ie wild animals that can be dangerous). https://lnkd.in/es8JNEBa

Looking for live in dog care or dog sanctuary to live or work. Actress/personal assistant/photographer/researcher/coach/writer/environmentalist/stylist/photoshop
So rescues work with certain shelters…some only take small or breed specific. Some don’t take behavior dogs or sick dogs listed for pre euthanasia, but if they seem perfectly healthy try anyway. Holds are being shortened. If you don’t agree then sign petitions and get involved. Nobody wants to see a healthy dog euthanized, and it’s shocking that it’s happening. Fosters don’t happen out of thin air, reach out to your company, and Highschools and active senior facilities and anyone who can help. When a shelter is in a no man’s land? Create a lifeline. DogsWithoutBorders O kills is the goal!!! Love you dog lovers and rescuers and vets and fosters.

Turkey's parliament on Tuesday approved a law that aims to round up millions of stray dogs and put them into shelters, a plan that has alarmed animal lovers who say a mass neutering campaign would be a better solution. Under the legislation, proposed by the President Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK party, municipalities would have to get the strays off the streets and into shelters. Any dogs showing aggressive behaviour or that have untreatable diseases will be put down. Under previous legislation, municipalities have to neuter and vaccinate all street dogs and leave them where they were found following treatment. The population of street dogs in Turkey is estimated to be four million, and municipalities have neutered around 2.5 million in the past 20 years, according to the draft bill. The animals are often taken care of by neighbourhood residents and treated like pets. There are currently 322 animal shelters with a capacity for 105,000 dogs, according to the bill. The law also requires all municipalities to spend at least 0.3% of their annual budget on animal rehabilitation services and building shelters. Municipalities will be given time until 2028 to build new shelters and improve current shelters, the law says. Thousands of people have taken to the streets over the past few weeks to protest against the law, occasionally scuffling with police. #straydogs #turkey #pets #shelter #news #Newspedia

This might be controversial, but every time you feel guilty about leaving that sad-looking hamster or fish at your local pet store, the kindest thing you can do is actually not buy them! 🥺🙏 Buying these animals creates a demand for more to be bred and sold, which supports the cycle of poor treatment and neglect. 👎 Instead, please consider adopting from a shelter or rescue instead (yes, you can find small animals at shelters/rescues!) 🩷 Do you agree with us? 💭 • • • • #vegancontent #vegansofig #veganfriendly #petsmart #petco #petsmartanimals #petcoanimals

October is National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month 💜 Rescues Are The Greatest Gift 💝 All of my dogs -- all Pugs, and we miss them all so much -- have been rescues. Let me put some fears to rest about adopting a rescue. According to statistics from Best Friends Animal Society, a leading animal welfare organization working to end the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters, animals are abandoned in two out of three cases BECAUSE OF HUMAN PROBLEMS -- not because something is wrong the pet; that is not why most pets are given up. It's rarely about the animals behavior. The most common causes of surrendering a pet to a shelter are, first, housing issues, then finances, the owner's death or illness, and only last, a poor pet-person connection. Please consider sharing a photo (or photos) and story of your sweet, beautiful rescue(s) with us on City Pets Vets FB page -- the direct link is in the comments directly below -- and tag us so we can share your love for each other on our social media. #NationalAdoptAShelterDogMonth #AnimalRescues #AnimalShelters #AdoptDontShop
