🌿 Happy Horticulture Friday! As nature springs to life, it's time to ensure your lawn stays lush and pest-free. Here's how: 🌿 Optimal Deck Height: Know you turf type first! Zoya, Centipede, and St Augustine need to be mowed around 3 inches this time of year. St. Augustine needs to go to 4 - 4.5 in July - September. Bermuda turf should be mowed at 2.5 inches this time of year. While the grass isn't towering yet, weeds may sneak through. Balancing at this height ensures a well-managed lawn without scalping tender growth. If your mower is scalping at the correct deck height, you need to address grating issues to prevent this. 🌿 Combat the Drought: With the recent dry period, your lawn needs extra care. Consider insecticides to tackle pests like mole crickets. While you may not eliminate them entirely, controlling their population is crucial. 🌿 Take Action: Don't wait! Mole crickets are notorious pests, and now's the time to act. If you're not treating your lawn, you're inviting trouble. 🌱 Dead Heading Roses: Here's a bonus tip! It's that time of year when deadheading roses becomes a must. By removing spent blooms, you encourage fresh growth and enhance the overall appearance of your plants.
