Happy International Women’s Day! The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. The campaign theme is – Inspire inclusion. Women have always played a pivotal role in our society. They are mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends. They are leaders, innovators, educators, healthcare workers, caregivers, entrepreneurs, creators… I could go on and on. Women have broken barriers, and proven time and again that they can achieve greatness in every field. On this Women’s Day, let us pledge to support and empower the women in our lives. Let us encourage them to dream big, to pursue their passions, and to never give up, no matter the challenges they face. Together, we can create a world where women are celebrated every day, where their voices are heard, and their potential is unleashed. I would like to honor the women we have lost. We celebrate them and remember them on this day. I would like to encourage the women today with this quote from Malala Yousafzai; For the love of all that is good in this world, please never give up. If you care about something or someone, no matter what happens, refuse to quit! Never give up and seek motivation to fuel your drive. Happy International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day can be a time for many things; a moment of celebration for the hard-fought runs on the board, while also a focusing of the lens as to progress that is still to come. In considering this year’s IWD theme - Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress – we reflected on where we have contributed to investment and acceleration, and what that looks like for us, into the future. As an organisation, we swing the pendulum in favour of women – within our team of staff, our Board and amongst our participants. This can beg the question of what that means for women in community leadership, particularly in volunteer roles; on the one hand, it could mean that we’re asking more of women again. More time, more unpaid labour, more challenges to navigate in a world that has historically not been designed to benefit women. But on the other hand, it suggests that more women can access opportunities to increase their capacity, to sit at whatever table they’re interested in and have their voices and views heard, and they’re supported along the way to do so – juggling the competing priorities of time, effort and energy. That they’re being counted in, and they’re being invested in. Is there still more to be done? Yes, always. But at the heart of it, we’re really proud of the vast number of women involved in our organisation, and in the broader efforts of community-led initiatives across the region. That despite the hurdles, women keep treading well-worn pathways, and carving out new ones, too. Not only to benefit themselves, but for the many. And through every mechanism available to us, as an organisation we remain committed to providing these equitable and accessible opportunities well into the future.

Today, we join the global community in celebrating the achievements, contributions, and resilience of women around the world. International Women's Day is not just a day; it's a call to action, a reminder to acknowledge and uplift the incredible women who have shaped our past, continue to shape our present, and inspire the future. This year's theme, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" serves as a compelling reminder of the pivotal role women play in shaping societies and economies worldwide. Investing in women isn't just about financial contributions; it's about recognizing, supporting, and empowering women at every level. Today, we honor the women who have shattered glass ceilings, defied expectations, and paved the way for generations to come. It's a day to appreciate the diverse talents, perspectives, and strengths that women bring to every facet of life and work. Let's use this day as an opportunity to amplify the voices of women, acknowledge their achievements, and commit to creating a workplace where everyone, regardless of gender, feels valued, respected, and empowered. How do you celebrate International Women's Day? Today, ESM celebrates the achievements of all 91 women working at the ESM, where women currently represent 40% of staff. To mark #IWD2024, ESM staff are: 🟣 Taking part in a Catalyst Inc. webinar where women leaders share their personal career journeys and offer insights on how women can thrive in their careers while acting as catalysts for greater equity at the workplace. 🟣 Contributing to a charity drive for Dress For Success Luxembourg asbl to support disadvantaged women in Luxembourg to start a career and gain economic independence. 🟣 Inviting a colleague from the World Bank to review 35 years of data, explore the root causes of issues holding back women’s careers and identify possible solutions.

As a first daughter in my family, I have always felt a unique responsibility to support and uplift my sisters. Beyond familial relationships, this role has also profoundly influenced my perspective on how important it is to invest in women. From a young age, I recognized the value of education and empowerment for my sisters. Hence, I strived to support their personal and professional growth be it helping with homework, providing guidance on career choices or simply being a listening ear during challenging times. These contributions have added to their growth and successes in their various fields. However, while our bond is deeply personal, its significance extends beyond our family unit. It speaks to the positive ripple effects that can be achieved when women invest in each other. As we commemorate International Women's Day and reflect on the theme of "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," I urge you all to recognize the power of investing in women around you. Be it through mentorship, advocacy, or simply offering a supportive presence, we all have the ability to make a difference in the lives of women and girls around us. Let us commit to lifting each other up, amplifying our voices and creating a more inclusive world for all. Happy International Women’s Day (IWD)! Did you know that the first International Women’s Day was held in March 1911? Since its founding, IWD has played a key role in challenging stereotypes of women and the role they play in society. This year’s International Women’s day is themed ‘Inspire Inclusion’. Through collective responsibility, we must create spaces for women to feel empowered, seen, and heard. History serves as evidence that through their resilience, foresight, and faith, women have positively shaped our world and continue to offer a refreshing and inspiring outlook that offers hope for a brighter tomorrow. Eagle understands that no one can solve the issues arising from inequalities towards women. Nevertheless, we are determined to play our part in ensuring that being vocal about women’s issues is something we do with passion, and not just out of duty. We work daily to ensure our global team - strengthened by the excellence of our female colleagues - feel supported in their personal and professional journey with us.  Let’s work together to fight the injustices that plague women - young and old. On this International Women's Day, we must remember that women are not inferior to men in any way. In fact, the idea that women are inferior to men is absurd. After all, every man is born of a woman. How, then, can he be superior while she is inferior? Yet, even in the 21st century, we continue to see discrimination and unfair treatment towards women. We are amazed when a woman drives a car or becomes the head of a company. We expect women to take care of the home and do all the household work, and we still practice dowry in the name of tradition. We feel uncomfortable when women speak their minds freely, and we blame them for the clothes they wear instead of broadening our own mindsets. It's time for us to ask ourselves: what are we fighting for? We must recognize that there can be no up without down, no right without wrong, and no left without right. Similarly, there can be no men without women - both are connected, like the alpha and omega. So let's celebrate Women's Day not just for a day, but for the entire year. Let us promise to give women the freedom that we take for granted, to respect and care for them, and to believe that they make us complete. Let's embrace the power and strength of women, and work towards a future where all women can achieve their full potential. Remember, when we uplift women, we uplift society as a whole.
