VISION ZERO IN ACTION! The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the City of Palm Bay a $2.4 million Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to improve pedestrian safety along Emerson Drive! 🎉 This funding will bring crucial safety enhancements, including: ✅ A new 6-foot sidewalk ✅ Pedestrian hybrid beacon ✅ Removal of a merge lane to reduce conflict points ✅ Crosswalks with rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFBs) These improvements will greatly benefit students and pedestrians, especially near local schools, making it safer to walk and bike in the area. The Space Coast TPO played a key role in securing this grant by using data from our Vision Zero initiative to identify the need for these improvements. 🏫🚸 "This project is a direct result of our commitment to Vision Zero and safer streets for everyone," said SCTPO Executive Director, Georganna Gillette. 🌟 Together with Palm Bay, we're building safer streets for our community! Exciting times ahead for Greater Manchester as it takes the lead in the UK's electric vehicle revolution! 🚗⚡ A whopping 1,045,910 new EVs have been registered in the region, indicating a strong commitment to sustainable transportation among its residents. Stockport shines as the beacon of this transformation within the ten councils of the region. It's a noteworthy achievement that Greater Manchester represents around 10% of the UK total EV uptake, showcasing the proactive approach of the local communities and authorities towards environmental stewardship. While we navigate potential challenges, such as building a robust charging infrastructure to support the growing number of EVs, it's heartening to see such progress. Currently, with 61,232 charge points nationwide, efforts are underway to ensure readiness for the 2030 cessation of fossil fuel-powered car sales. What’s just as exciting as the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lighting? The Illinois Tollway flipping the switch on innovation - SmartRoad is officially LIVE on I-294! The Illinois Tollway turned on it’s latest SmartRoad on the northern section of the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) between Wolf Road and Balmoral Avenue in conjunction with the opening of the new fifth lane for northbound traffic. This is a huge milestone for the project and TranSystems is proud to be a part of it! 🚊 Exciting Times Ahead for Coventry! 🚊 This summer, Coventry will be in the spotlight as it hosts a groundbreaking trial of its Very Light Rail (VLR) project. Imagine a city centre test run showcasing the latest in urban rail technology on a 220m stretch along Greyfriars Road and Queen Victoria Road. This trial aims to demonstrate the ease of integrating such a system with minimal urban disruption—just what our densely packed city centres need! The VLR system, which has already proven its mettle with over 1,000km of testing and withstanding "well over a million tonnes" of pressure at the BCIMO, offers a glimpse into the future of public transport. Picture this: tracks only 300mm deep installed without the headache of rerouting utility lines, and a vehicle cruising at 20mph (32km/h) without the visual clutter of overhead cables. This test is set to confirm the feasibility of a more extensive 2km link between Coventry railway station and Pool Meadow bus station. What's even better is that residents will have the chance to ride on this innovative tram during the four-week trial! Details will be published on the Coventry Council's website soon, so be sure to keep an eye out. This project, part of a £40.5M investment from the Department for Transport, is a pivotal step in Coventry's journey to becoming the UK's first Electric City, tackling climate change and improving air quality.
