Why Ride Fixed Gear? Secrets of Fixed Gear Riding - Fixed Gear VS Geared Bikes Why do we ride fixed gear? It often makes no sense to people when I tell them I ride a bike with no gears and not only that a bike in which the pedals are connected directly to the back wheel meaning the pedals wont stop turning when I stop pedaling. It can be pretty tricky at times going up steep hills and a bit daunting going down hill. Why wouldn't I use the modern day luxuries of the dérailleur system and gears? I could be changing gears as I wish to match my incline and speed as to where I may be going. This system has been scientifically optimised and it allows riders a more efficient ride and the ability to go faster, farther for longer (think the Tour De France Bikes, all gears.) However what if I told you that fixed gear bikes have a few secret benefits of their own; ultimately functional, form meets function, the human body meets machine, rubber meets city street, locked in to the present moment and most importantly, absolutely exhilarating.

Faq's FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is a fixie? Fixie or fixed gear bikes do not have the ability to coast. The rear wheel and pedals are “fixed” together, when one moves so does the other, in either direction. You cannot stop pedalling whilst the bike is in motion. What is a single speed? Single speed bikes offer the simplicity and reliability of a fixie, but allow coasting through the use of a freewheel. You can stop pedalling whilst the bike is moving. What is a flip-flop hub? A flip-flop hub has a cog on both sides of the rear wheel. This allows the wheel to be removed, flipped over and reinstalled to use the other cog. Usually one side is threaded for a freewheel and the other side for a fixed gear cog. This allows people to start with a single speed bike and later turn it into a fixie or vice versa. Simply put, a flip-flop hub means you have both a fixed gear and single speed bike. Why one gear? Simplicity, there is very little to go wrong with a single speed bike. With a typical multi-geared bike, one knock in the wrong place could see your derailleur out of alignment causing skipping gears, jumping chains and a trip to the local bike shop for a service. This is simply not the case with just one gear. Single speed bikes are great for commuters and city dwellers who need a reliable mode of transport without the fear of needing frequent servicing. What about hills?! Most people think they need gears for hills. In reality most riders can conquer the average gradient with just a little extra effort on a single speed bike. As a custom shop we can gear the bike to suit your needs if gradients are a common occurrence. How will my bike be delivered? Your bike will be delivered by a courier of our choice dependant on where you’re located. The bike will be 90% built and require only basic assembly. We always recommend a bicycle mechanic completes the build to ensure a safe bike. In the event of any warranty claims proof of professional assembly is required.

The advantages of belt drive | Coh&Co Belt-driven bicycles often catch people’s attention and spur a bunch of questions. Belts are ideal for urban bikes, internal gear touring bikes, single speeds and fixies: and that is why we choose them whenever we believe it makes sense. Despite their many advantages, belts are however often misunderstood. So why would you want to swap out your trusty (remember the “t”) chain and replace it with a belt? #cohandco #beltdrive Gates Corporation #urbancycling

#TuesdayThoughts 🚴♂️ Late last year I bought my dream road bike. I had been scoping the market for a long time and spent endless hours scrolling thousands of websites and YouTube channels trying to decipher whether an SL8, Lab 71, or S5 would be the best fit for me. Every single brand out there is trying to sell you bikes based on how light, stiff and fast they are. However, there are a few brands out there that just Asterix & Obelix are going against what everyone else is doing by focusing on quality and the overall experience. This is what I learnt from TIME Bicycles during my research that could be applied to most businesses out there. 1. Invest in Quality, Not Quantity: Unlike other brands that mass-produce bikes, TIME uses aerospace carbon treatment processes to make their bikes safer, stronger, and durable. It’s a more expensive and labor-intensive method that requires a different level of commitment, equipment and training. You are basically buying a piece of art with wheels 2. Let Your Product Speak for Itself: While most big brands spend heavily on sponsorships and marketing, TIME relies mostly on word-of-mouth. They've built a solid reputation over the years, organically boosted by bike experts, which has turned their name into a synonym for quality. 3. Make a Product for Everyone, Not Just the Few: TIME designs bikes with a focus on ergonomics, promoting rider health and reducing physical strain. This is crucial at a time when amateur cyclists often try to emulate professional setups, which can lead to discomfort and disappointment. Remember, comfortable is the new fast.

I'm at the intersection of intersections (digitization, cities, AI, climate...); now sabidurAI; founded Despacio.org ; formerly NUMO - advising others
Endings are for stories, nor for bikeways. However, sometimes in #Bogotacycling we see bikeways like these. You get a lot of explanations from city government engineers when asking why a bikeway ends so abruptly. - “it’s a different project from the one that follows” - “it’s not in our mandate to do the continuation” - “we have no more budget” - and so on… Why didn’t the road next to the bikeway end? Why is it that every road that is built is done so completely and always linked to a network, but this is not possible in a simpler, narrower, cheaper bikeway? However, I have to admit that in the 26 years that we’ve had bikeways in the city this “ending” phenomenon has not increased in frequency. However, still some more steps to be taken. This bikeway is at a corner of the “park complex” along the Parque de los Artesanos and going into the Modelo neighborhood (where we have the maya airways workshop!). Writing from an incomplete but anyway extensive bikeway network…

Mighty Velo is more than just a bike shop – we’re a dedicated family always looking for creative and exciting ways to push boundaries and do things differently. We looked at the way we were selling bikes – the usual short-form clips, polished photos of bike components, and more – and asked ourselves: “What can we do to push the envelope?” This year, we’ve grown our in-house marketing and design team to such an extent that we’ve started producing entire short films that blur the line between advertisement and narrative. The concept behind each film is to showcase a folding bike model in a new and unique way, enabling our audience to look at them in a fresh light, and perhaps drawing in people unfamiliar with folding bikes. This video is a trailer for one of the very first short films we shot, for the Birdy GT. While not as narrative-heavy as later films we’ve produced, it was the first step of our commitment to a new level of creativity and excellence. Our aim is to set ourselves apart in the industry by fostering a culture that encourages creativity and innovation to produce high-caliber content. You can watch the full film over at https://lnkd.in/guMVqxqw Stay tuned for more information on our other short films, where our newfound pivot to great storytelling and professional-quality production will become truly apparent. We believe these two elements can make a world of difference in how we connect with our community and share our passion for folding bikes. #film #creativity #foldingbike #cycling #marketing

Make any Bike adventure ready as easy as 1, 2, 3 When I jumped over to aeroe I was excited to have the opportunity to disrupt they way in which racks and carrying systems are used and fit bikes (they were already nailing this) but also sold in retail and online. Can we execute a truely modular system and then also introduce riding categories (use type) into racks? - Off Road, Touring and Commute. This week, behind the scenes we quietly launched our front rack to our database. The rack carries nothing, its just a bar, crazy right? Turns out not so crazy, it went nuts (was epic to see everyone mix and matching accessories) and helped cement our thinking that we are on the right path. 1) Select your rack front or back to provide the ultimate stable base for any MTB & EMTB 2) Select your rack accessory for the type of riding you want to do 3) Add your bag, ours or yours Adventure as easy as 1,2,3 simple. If you want to simplify your SKU offering, but fit more bikes and simplify the selling process for your team - come see us at Eurobike Hall 11.1 – B36

One of the (many) joys of working with World Bicycle Relief is that not only do I get to see how Buffalo Bicycles make such an impact on people's lives, but I get to ride one while I'm in the field :-) And now there's a new model: today marks the unveiling of the Buffalo Utility S2 – even more of the right bike for rural roads. The model received a Eurobike Award for its revolutionary 2-chain drivetrain, which has no sensitive external components like those on a rear derailleur that could be bent, damaged or contaminated. The 2-speed system offers a simple choice between high (for speed) and low (for climbing) gear. If a rider breaks one of the chains, they can keep riding with the other chain to their destination with minimal delay. I hope to ride one soon! Find out more at https://lnkd.in/dAe4ivcz.
