Introduction to Fire: What Is Fire? Fire is the outcome of a chemical reaction in which a fuel (such as wood, paper, gasoline, etc.) rapidly reacts with oxygen. The reaction is called combustion, and it produces heat, flames, and smoke. Heat is a form of energy, whereas flames and smoke are the visible components of fire, consisting mainly of carbon dioxide, water vapors, and unburned particle How Does a Fire Start? For a fire to start, three elements must be present in the right proportions. These elements are fuel, oxygen, and heat, commonly referred to as the "fire triangle." If any of these elements is missing, the fire will not start. #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety #IndustrialSafety #SafetyCulture #ProcessSafety #SafetyMatters #SafetyAwareness #SafetyManagement #SafetyEngineering #SafetyTips #RiskManagement #RiskAssessment #HazardIdentification #RiskControl #OperationalRisk #RiskMitigation #SafetyRisk #RiskPrevention #OHSEngineering #OccupationalHealth #OccupationalSafety #HealthAndSafety #OSH #HSE #HSEManagement #WorkplaceHealthAndSafety #OHSCompliance #IncidentInvestigation #RootCauseAnalysis #HazardControl #EmergencyPreparedness #SafetyStandards #HazardPrevention #AccidentPrevention #SafetyTraining #SafeWorkPractices #SafetyCompliance #PPE #FireSafety #MachineSafety #ConfinedSpaceSafety #LockoutTagout #FallPrevention #ProcessHazardAnalysis #ChemicalSafety #ConstructionSafety #ManufacturingSafety #ProcessIndustry #FactorySafety #WorkplaceHazards #SafetyLeadership #EngineeringSafety #SafetyProfessionals #Safety #Risk #HealthSafetyEnvironment #WorkSafety #SafetyManagementSystem #SafetyAtWork #StaySafe

When it comes to storing flammable liquids, safety should always be your top priority. That's why it's important to follow OSHA guidelines for chemical storage. Did you know that no more than 60 gallons of flammable liquid (flashpoint below 140 degrees F) or 120 gallons of combustible (flashpoint at or above 140 degrees F) can be stored in a single chemical storage container or warehouse? This is to prevent dangerous reactions and environmental contamination. At U.S. Hazmat Rentals, we provide fire-rated storage lockers that meet OSHA standards and ensure the safe storage of all classifications of hazardous materials. Our experienced and knowledgeable building advisors can assess your chemical storage needs and provide turnkey temporary protection. #OILCHAT90: Lubricant Contamination We have discussed the importance of lubricant cleanliness in previous issues of OilChat but some topics justify emphasis and should be revisited from time to time. Lubricant contamination is one such subject. While there is much focus on using the correct lubricant, keeping the lubricant clean in storage, during decanting and the filling process and in operation is just as important. In fact, it does not matter how good a lubricant is, if it is contaminated with foreign matter and debris, it will affect the useful life of the lubricant and the equipment detrimentally. Machine and equipment maintenance starts in the oil store. Lubricants are prone to contamination from the moment a new oil container arrives on your premises. To learn more about the measures that can reduce and even prevent contaminants, read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/duz52Jqy #Oils #Lubricants #Q8Oils #oilchat

Screening Tool for Combustible Dust Combustible dusts pose a significant safety hazard in many industries. OSHA’s Fact Sheet on Combustible Dust Explosions outlines how fine particles (dusts) present an explosion hazard when suspended in air in certain conditions. A dust explosion can be catastrophic and cause employee deaths, injuries, and destruction of entire buildings. In many combustible dust incidents, employers and employees were unaware that a hazard even existed. It is important to determine if your company has this hazard and take necessary actions to prevent tragic consequences. RISK presented a paper on the coarse screening tool at the 2018 CCPS Global Congress on Process Safety. Below is a PDF of the tool we developed to quickly identify combustible dust issues at your site. A copy of the paper and tool can be found under the Resources section of our website, www.psmrisk.com/resources. Questions? Contact janet.benaquisto@psmrisk.com #DHA, #PSM, #Combustible Dust
