To promote non-violence, consider the following key messages: • Empathy and respect: Encourage understanding and respect for others' dignity. • Dialogue and negotiation: Promote peaceful resolution of conflicts. • Education and awareness: Spread awareness of the negative impacts of violence and the benefits of non- violence. • Accountability: Uphold laws and policies that protect vulnerable groups and ensure accountability for those who engage in violence.

As the 2024 Maryland legislative session comes to an end, here is an update on my work with Maryland PIRG and some incredible advocates and legislators We’ve got a lot to be proud of and a lot of work ahead of us. We’re up against tough odds and powerful opposition on all of our issues, but by combining grassroots action and tough minded advocacy we can make progress on our most pressing issues, and we have. https://lnkd.in/eTUzQycV

What if your father was killed, tortured, by the leaders of your country? How do you possibly move on? What could ever 'make up' for this happening? Today on Transforming Transitional Justice - the final episode of this series - we'll be diving into the many challenges still facing victims and survivors of atrocity as well as how the international community can help them better navigate these obstacles. In particular, we will explore the many ways that reparations can - when made available - provide concrete assistance to survivors. We’ll also examine how international entities can better support community-led transitional justice efforts. Produced for the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.

In this month’s IBJ Media column, longtime community leader and philanthropist Cindy Simon Skjodt and I wrote about how to achieve a better democracy for Indiana and America. Democracy reform may not be the sexiest issue, but it’s foundational to everything else we care about—building a better economy, support system, justice system, and planet. The Weight of the World🕍 Imagine carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. That's the reality for countless victims of injustice. Their stories are more than headlines; they're the silent screams echoing in our collective conscience. As professionals, we have a unique privilege and responsibility. We can use our voices, our platforms, and our influence to amplify their cries, to demand justice, and to build a world where everyone feels safe and valued. Let's break the silence together. Let's be the change. #JusticeForAll #BreakTheSilenc #EmpathyInAction

For more than 40 years, those of us working to end sexual and domestic violence in Virginia have been striving for a radically hopeful future: one where relationships, families, and communities are healthy, equitable, nourishing, and joyful. Over the past few years, the Action Alliance and others in the movement have been contemplating how and to what extent our actions match our vision, particularly around responses to the spectrum of harm, including physical violence: Will our current responses get us closer to equity and liberation? If the answer is “no”, what pivots can we make today toward a horizon that is more aligned with the future we crave…for ourselves and our descendants? Read more here: https://bit.ly/44L3bS0

There’s a new plan to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland’s criminal justice system. Better Justice Together is the Queensland Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice Strategy 2024–2031. It was created in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and community-controlled organisations, government agencies and non-government organisations. We would like to thank everyone who shared their story, insight and experience with us. Your voices shaped Better Justice Together and informed the plan for change moving forward. Better Justice Together features four focus areas in the plan to create change: - working together - early intervention and prevention with local decision-making for safer communities and families - doing justice differently for a better and fairer justice system - address offending and reduce re-offending.
