Feeling grateful for another trip around the sun & all of the thoughtful birthday messages…as it is the anniversary weekend of my moms passing, as well as the celebration of my birthday, it has always been a bit bittersweet- but as I grow older, I continue to appreciate some of the things I’ve come to learn over the years, especially from my mom, so thought I’d share (bc sometimes I need the reminder)…ie: get out of your comfort zone & try not to take yourself (or life) too seriously - take the trip / wear the fun outfit, even if it is ‘not you’…always find those moments to lift up others (it can be difficult at times, but will always be worth it)- seek out the opportunities to create memories with family and friends- smile & laugh, often (& even cry when you need to)- enjoy simple pleasures (like a good cup of coffee or tea, long walks or runs, bike rides, a favorite movie, book, or board game, homemade gelato, bubble bath, bowl of Pastina, singing loudly to your car radio), take the scenic route whenever possible (even if it’s a longer path)- learn what you can from yesterday- we are never too busy to do things with others, make the time- reach out- life is too short to hold grudges or sweat the small stuff (let it roll,…ALL of it), find the silver linings, bc there is always a silver lining- be present(…put your phone away), be kind to others (everyone is doing their best), make the most of bad times & learn from them (they will pass), & just try and enjoy every step of your journey (even when it’s difficult, learn to lean on others, & let them lean on you✌️)- never forget to take some time for yourself. …& remember that sometimes, the small things, really are the BIG things. One day at a time. Just keep going👊

🎉 The Year of Joy celebrates its 18-month anniversary this week! And what an incredible journey it has been. I am particularly proud of the fact that we have been able to empower those people, who were really struggling with their feeling of joy when they came into the Year of Joy community, to harvest significantly more joy in their lives, boosting their Joy Score on average by an impressive 20%. Awe. The first two Joy Superpowers we featured at the start of the Year of Joy were OPTIMISM and GRATITUDE, so it is only fitting that I start our 18-month celebrations with a post focused on these two superpowers. Firstly, I would like to thank Victor Perton, Nóirín Mosley and Chris Schembra 🍝 who shared their wisdom with our community members on these two Joy Superpowers and got the Year of Joy off to a flying start. Secondly, I'd like to take a moment to reflect and ask myself what am I optimistic about today? During the last 18 months we have been able to inspire and empower thousands of people to find more joy in their lives, and I am optimistic that we will be able to empower many, many more to do so over the next 18 months. And I also ask myself, what am I grateful for today? The success of the Year of Joy initiative has only been possible through support and collaboration with many. In fact, over 100 companies and individuals have partnered with us on the initiative. OTA is proud to celebrate its 20th Anniversary. We are grateful for the clients and partners who have supported our team throughout our journey and become our lifelong friends! Here are 6 lessons I have learned from my experience running OTA for the past 20 years and that I try to live by. 1) Surround yourself with people whose company you enjoy and whom you respect and trust. Life is all about relationships and the company you keep. Be discerning. 2) Never ever procrastinate. Those who live by: “put off today what you can do tomorrow” are mistaken. Instead, zero in on the tasks at hand and complete them with a sense of urgency. Have a “don’t just talk about it” mindset. Get it done! 3) Take calculated risks. Always be on the look out for new opportunities. This may require extra thought and creativity and could lead you out of your comfort zone. But, risks can be rewarding. And if they don’t work out, but you gave it your all, you’ll have learned a lot. 4) Never give up. When a plan doesn’t unfold the way you wanted, you can cry in your soup for a few minutes, but then change your course and persevere. We all experience straight up bad days, weeks, and even years (as once told to me by my kids’ pediatrician). But remember that tomorrow is a new day that brings with it fresh possibilities. Nothing can replace a positive attitude. 5) Have fun and laugh a lot always. Life is not about finding the treasure at the rainbow’s end. It’s about enjoying the ride on the rainbow. Make sure you take the ride with those people who unconditionally love every crazy little thing about you. That journey will sustain you in the long run. 6) Help others. Show your gratitude for your own comforts by finding ways to be generous and kind to people in need. Your acts of kindness will bring you the most meaning and happiness to your life. We are excited about what’s to come for OTA in the next decades. Although the digital age is upon us, there will always be a need for live and in-person engagements to keep us connected as humans. And yes, I already have answers to the questions rising in your mind: 𝘕𝘰, 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩. 𝘕𝘰, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦. 𝘠𝘦𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘪𝘵. The Christmas season isn’t just about giving to others. It’s also about reconnecting with YOU. Take a moment to ask yourself: 🖋️ What am I genuinely grateful for this year? 🖋️ How did I show up for myself? 🖋️ How can I carry that same (or more) energy into next year? Reflection doesn’t have to be a big, heavy task.
