How long did it take me to find 10 mistakes in the Google Ads Help Center? If you're new here, I'm reading every single page of the Google Ads Help Center so you don't have to 🤓 uncovering hidden gems, discovering new features, and sharing my findings with you. I don't want to play "gotcha" with Google and keep pointing out things that need updating, because honestly... there's just too many. So here are 10 of the mistakes I found in the first section, "Start advertising," that are more annoying than egregious. Finding these took me 20 minutes ⏳ 1. In the first section introducing the campaigns, called "What are the campaign types?," Local campaigns are listed as an option. They were deprecated in 2022. 2. Smart campaigns are NOT listed as an option in this article, which honestly, I'm not mad about 😂 3. Same article, it says that Video campaigns serve on "YouTube" - no mention of video partners or the Display network. 4. Similarly, it says that Demand Gen campaigns show "multi-image carousel ads" - strange word choice, as the default is a single image ad, and you can also add video ads. Before I keep going, I get that the purpose of this article is to keep things really simple. I love simple! But if Google can state that Search campaigns show on "Search results" rather than saying "Google Search," then they can and should get these distinctive details right. 5. Moving onto a different page, the initial Display campaign article states that there are two types of Display campaigns: Standard Display and Smart Display. Smart Display was deprecated in 2022. 6. Under "Types of Video campaigns," it lists Custom video campaigns, Video reach campaigns and Get views campaigns - all have evolved into other subtypes, and there's no mention of the audio campaign type. 7. A tip states "You'll first need to create your video ad and upload it to YouTube." This is no longer true, you can now upload videos directly into Google Ads - a great change! 8. The "Choose the right campaign type" article omits Demand Gen 😭 even though it WAS included in the "What are the campaign types?" article. 9. There's an article called "How Google Ads can work for your industry," which I'll do a separate post about because it's an interesting one! But of course, it's recommending a lot of deprecated features, like Smart Shopping campaigns for retailers, TrueView for Reach campaigns for Media & Entertainment companies, and Local campaigns for healthcare businesses. 10. This article also recommends that travel companies "use the Display network to publish banners on millions of websites." I haven't heard the Display network described as a place to "publish banners" since 2015, especially not by Google! More to come this week, I'll be analyzing those industry-specific recommendations for you, plus sharing (and critiquing) Google's surprising asset guidelines 🤯 Have you ever found a mistake in the Google Ads documentation?

This would be bad enough, but then factor in that Google support is almost non-existent these days and people get shunted to the support docs every time, and it's a recipe for confusion.

I have to agree with you, simplicity is important, but it's equally crucial for Google to provide accurate and up-to-date information Jyll Saskin Gales .
