The bill, which aims to offer employees more flexible working rights, could lead to increased administrative burdens and costs for businesses. While supporting the principle of flexible work, the bodies urge lawmakers to consider the impact on recruitment processes, small businesses, and overall workforce management. The Workplace Fairness Bill was passed in Parliament today. This Bill is a proactive and significant step towards strengthening protections for workers and preserving the fair and harmonious workplace conditions that we hold dear. The Bill will complement the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices to accord stronger protections and remedies for workers. Through extensive consultations and deliberations with the tripartite partners, we have designed the Bill to balance: Improving protections against workplace discrimination, Preserving our fair and harmonious workplace norms, Giving employers flexibility to meet genuine business needs. Grateful to all who were involved in making this Bill possible – the team from Ministry of Manpower, and our partners – particularly the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF). My thanks to everyone who have contributed their feedback on this Bill through our numerous engagements too I discussed more about the Bill in an interview with Berita Mediacorp, which you can catch below!
