🚀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲! 🚀 Earlier this month, the Reonic team came together for our Barcelona offsite. With most of our team having less than 8 months of tenure, we knew that one of the key areas to focus on was aligning our goals and expectations. Rather than overloading the agenda, we decided to concentrate on what truly matters now: 𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆. Here are some insights we gained: 1️⃣ 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: First offsite comes with its challenges, but when you have a team with great intentions, you find that everyone rallies together to overcome them. It's not about perfection—it's about progress. 2️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: While spontaneity has its place, a solid structure is key. We made a few last-minute changes to the agenda—some worked wonders, others... well, let’s just say they kept us on our toes! 😄 3️⃣ 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿? 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻!: We anticipated the team would crave more fun, but the 40/60 work-to-fun ratio wasn’t enough! Our team wanted more workshops, which was an incredible surprise and a testament to their drive and passion. 4️⃣ 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿: Keep everyone close! The bonding was so strong that no one wanted to leave early, which made the logistics a bit tricky. Lesson learned—next time, everyone stays within walking distance! 5️⃣ 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: Our commitment to hiring based on cultural addition paid off. The connections made were genuine, and it felt more like a getaway with friends than a work trip. By the last day, no one wanted it to end—a true testament to our aligned values! This offsite was more than just an event; 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. What a great journey it has been to support Lingoda with further strengthening Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion together with Andreas Dimopoulos and Nota Avgerinou🤩 DEI topics can be challenging to navigate, but we truly believe in the power of life-long learning & open dialogue. Nobody has all the answers, and that's totally okay! ☀ When started brainstorming Roundtables with our DEI Representatives, we agreed on a couple of ground rules: 1) nobody has all the knowledge, 2) there are no stupid questions, 3) we are all in the process of learning. And this was the mindset that guided our approach to the DEI Roundtables. Thanks to our DEI Representatives Friederike Grasberger, Laura Patsko (she/her), Linda Hillerich & Mansi Rajesh Mahindrakar, the Roundtables were not only interactive but also a fun way to reflect on what we learnt in Paradigm trainings & brainstorm how each of us can promote diversity in our everyday lives. We were humbled by the positive feedback on DEI Roundtables from Lingodies, which reminded us once again how important - and often overlooked - the topic of inclusion is. Yesterday, on the second day of CoreNet Berlin, I attended a fascinating session called Culture Club: Making Work Your Happy Place. While many of the day's sessions were interesting, this one struck a particular chord with me, as it invited me to look at my own behaviours at work, especially in the more challenging moments. The session examined how our reactions and behaviours, shaped by our feelings and thoughts, have an impact on culture in our work environment. It might sound obvious, but relationships, happiness, enjoyable workplaces, team activities, community building and inclusivity are all interrelated; by examining our own behaviours and reactions, we can ensure what we put into the culture aids its cohesion. From there, we can all help to create more harmonious places to work. 

During Devfest Calabar 2023, I delivered a compelling virtual presentation on the Benefits of Positive Workplace Relationships (Office Wellness). While much emphasis is often placed on excelling in interviews of our dream jobs and maintaining a strong work ethic, the significance of cultivating meaningful professional relationships is frequently overlooked. What are Workplace Relationships? These are personal relationships between people who work together🤷🏽♀️. It could be anyone you have known for a long time, or someone you have built a relationship with, in the course of working with them. The significance of these relationships is underscored by several key advantages: 01. 👥 Fostering Collaboration: Having teammates you respect can motivate you to perform to the best of your abilities. Effective communication among team members can help everyone perform various tasks more efficiently. 02. 📈 Individual Productivity Improvements: People who enjoy working with their coworkers tend to consciously, and unconsciously work harder, because they understand each other well. 03. 💼 Increasing employee retention rates: A team that retains its key members usually delivers better long-term results, as everyone is accustomed to the professional styles and attitudes of their coworkers. 04. 💬 Transfer of skills and knowledge: Positive relationships facilitates the exchange of expertise among colleagues in related roles. Therefore a team with both senior, and junior members is more likely to deliver good long-term results, if its members enjoy positive relationships with each other. 05.💡Inspiring creativity: Establishing strong relationships with coworkers stimulates creative thinking. Working in an environment where you feel relaxed about displaying your own personality, can provide you with the inspiration. You can find the support you need to produce innovative ideas, and thoughts that can lead to more efficient ways of doing things. 06. 🤗 Facilitating the intake of new team members: A cohesive team with pre-established positive relationships can make it easier for a new team-member to integrate, as they can observe how team members relate to each other and gradually adopt those behaviors. The benefits of positive workplace relationships elaborated above can be translated into your personal experiences by diligently applying five key steps, which I will share in an upcoming post.
