The Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals - Latrobe are searching for their next Community Link Workers! The Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System recognisedthat communities play a critical role in supporting mental health and wellbeing, particularly in their role supporting social connectedness. One of the Royal Commission's recommendations is the establishment of a social prescribing trial within six of the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services (Local Services). Social prescribing will support Local Services to refer people experiencing psychological distress, mental illness and/or addiction into non-clinical community groups to support community participation, inclusion and connection. Older adults and those experiencing social isolation and loneliness will be priority groups for the trials. The link worker, which is a lived experience position, we be performing a dual role to: support the individual, their carers, families and supporters to engage with non-clinical activities to benefit their mental health and wellbeing; and enable sustained engagement with local community organisations, clubs and activity providers, ensuring their groups are safe, welcoming and inclusive places for people to access. A link worker will form part of a client's wider care team, working alongside other support workers to provide holistic care. https://lnkd.in/gBh7su_T https://lnkd.in/gbgNQAgx #socialprescribing #communitylinkworkers #hiring #mentalhealthandwellbeinglocals #morwell

In this recent publication we report on a dataset containing 17 years of linked WA health records. While the number of individuals accessing state funded services with an index diagnosis of mental disorder has steadily increased over time, there has been a disproportionally much greater percentage increase in emergency department attendances compared to community mental health and inpatient services. This is unlikely to surprise anyone working in these locations or the consumers, carers and family members who are most affected, but the magnitude of the increase is striking and looks like a system resetting at a new equilibrium point. https://lnkd.in/giG7UuSZ

📢 We are so pleased to announce that Southdown (UOK's provider) has been awarded a five-year contract to lead the transformation of non-clinical, community support for people living with mental health challenges in East Sussex. Commissioned by East Sussex County Council with a start date of the 1st of April, the contract involves development and delivery of a network of integrated mental health recovery support designed to help people get well, stay well, and avoid crisis. Neil Blanchard, Chief Executive, says, "More than ever, there is unprecedented need for mental health support as individuals with mental health challenges represent some of our most disadvantaged populations. People with serious mental illnesses, in particular, face profound health, social and economic inequalities." "Over the next five years, we want to build on what is working well in East Sussex and develop new opportunities for providers to work together so that we can be there for more people in need of support." 👉 You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/eqFdPGnX #partnershipworking #mentalhealthmatters #eastsussex #brightonandhove

Such a beautiful example of what peer support can look like! This pilot project in Brooklyn's Prospect Park utilizes community workers to handle mental health issues in the park. Their assignment is simple: "Walk up to people in the park - anyone, not just people who show signs of stress or instability - and ask a conversation-starter question, something like 'How are you feeling today?'" I love this initiative as a tool for removing the stigma around mental health care. Moreover, any effort that relies on community outreach to improve lives is one that I can get behind. What do you guys think about this one? #MentalHealth #CommunityOutreach #PeerSupport

Director of Safeguarding. Independent Safeguarding consultant( Reflective supervision/Training/Audits/Consultation on cases, systems and policies )
What an honest article. Safeguarding can be challenging particular against the backdrop of restricted resources, less staff, increased cases, heightened tension and more need in the community. We are working in this role to make a difference and sometimes our ability to do this can be compromised. Speaking out and bringing this tension to light is important. Finding a space to discuss the impact ( and trauma of experience) is equally inportant. I can’t highlight enough how important it is we take care of ourselves. So we can continue to advocate and take care of others. Can we change the systems together?
