This is the best way to #code. Period. Have you heard about #Kaizen? Kaizen is a Japanese word that means #change for the better. Kaizen however, is more than that. It is a way of #thinking and #living. Kaizen teaches us to strive for small improvements every day, rather than trying to go big in one go. So what does Kaizen have to do with software development? Easy. Instead of trying to get the feature ready, make small continuous improvements towards the feature. Don't look at the big picture of whatever it is you are developing. Rather, focus on getting your code to do one thing that it didn't do before. And then another. And another. Kaizen works like a snowball. It starts small, but when it gets momentum, it becomes bigger and bigger until it becomes an avalanche. So start coding by taking out a small chunk of the problem you're trying to solve. And then another, and another... Before you know it, you will have solved the bigger problem, created the feature you're working on, delivered the project. Having learned Kaizen principles from my manager in my previous company, I can attest to their transformative impact on my development journey. Implementing these principles has not only improved my skills but also made me a more matured and effective developer. Now, as I lead junior developers myself, I insist on the importance of these principles, emphasizing continuous learning, iterative development, streamlined workflows, collaborative problem-solving, taking initiatives beyond assigned tasks, and user-centric design. These practices have not only elevated our team's performance but also fostered a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Kaizen, from Japanese philosophy, means continuous improvement. It fosters a culture of ongoing enhancement in software development, encouraging small but consistent improvements. Teams can thrive by integrating Kaizen principles and taking initiatives: Continuous Learning: Encourage learning through platforms like Udemy, fostering knowledge sharing. Iterative Development: Embrace Agile methodologies for quick feedback and robust testing strategies. Streamlined Workflow: Standardize tooling, version control, and CI/CD pipelines for efficiency. Collaborative Problem Solving: Encourage proactive initiatives and cross-functional collaboration. User-Centric Design: Prioritize user feedback, iterate on designs, and implement A/B testing. Initiative Taking: Take initiatives beyond assigned tasks, explore new technologies, and propose innovative solutions to enhance user experiences. By embracing these Kaizen and proactive initiatives, teams can cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and deliver exceptional experiences.

Education: Lean thinking is applied in educational institutions to improve administrative processes, curriculum design, and to enhance student learning experiences. Government and Public Sector: Lean helps in improving efficiency, reducing costs, and increasing the quality of public services. Environmental Management: Lean practices can lead to more sustainable business practices by reducing waste and resource consumption. In each of these areas, the core principles of lean—such as respect for people, continuous improvement (Kaizen), and the elimination of waste (Muda)—help organizations to stay competitive, agile, and customer-focused in an ever-changing environment.

Shorten your feedback loops Short feedback loops are better than longer ones as you learn faster. I find this is hard to teach students, who think the deadline is far away. They forget the time it takes for information to work back to them, which then causes more work.
