What does it mean to decolonise? It means overcoming relations of exploitation and dehumanisation of the other. In Brazil, these colonial logics are perpetuated through racism, sexism and structural discrimination. Civil society organisations are bringing the issue to the fore and seeking to transform power relations, including in philanthropy. In the post below I think aloud about this.

Harmony Day on 21 March marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The United Nations established Harmony Day to highlight the struggle against racism and prejudice, in memory of the 69 protestors killed in Sharpeville, South Africa, in 1960 as the demonstrated against the apartheid laws. Harmony Week reminds us of the challenges that many people continue to face in workplaces, communities and broader societies. In Australia, Harmony week is also a time to recognise and celebrate our diversity. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world. Harmony week reminds us all of the importance of continuing to work to maintain and strengthen diversity, inclusion and a sense of belonging for everyone - including here at the AHC Singapore.
